Class of '68 in the 5th form in 1965/66.
Form Notes:

5L showed the complacency of an egotistical pomposity nurtured by flukish G.C.E. results, Harvey's Bristol Cream (stirred three times and left to stand) and liberal doses of Haigh. Man, there was a wind from the East ...

5S's highlight was "Johnston-an'-Hilton's non-profit-making raffle which enabled Hilton to fly to the Bahamas and open an hotel". They indulged in two sports: "Ling's cross country achievements and the organised persecution of Prime". As a sideline they took 'O' levels and "even passed a few".

5A achieved the impossible and spent a pleasurable but hardworking year. They reproachfully remember the last history note, given the day before 'O' level. Mr. Clark and pest control are also mentioned, in that order. Their punctuation may have been intentional when they wrote "To the many masters, who taught us, all in, this year goes our utmost thanks". What did Stannard do in the English stock cupboard for a week? The mind boggles ...

"As the year progressed it occurred to the members of 5B that they were fed up with being told undauntingly to "Play Hard but Work Harder". Accordingly new weapons were invented to combat the ever increasing piles of work". So they read voraciously books about scooters and literature from "Mr. Dawes' well-stocked library"-Lolita and The Carpet Baggers. Muller and Gill played cards ("sucking fantastic but theoretical sums of money out of each other") and Jarrett invented the "sock-bomb". A fun-year all round by the sound of it.

Mr. Ranson, we are told, kept 5C "jogging" through another unsuccessful year. The alien experience of work as 'O' levels approached, however, led to some surprising results: "especially English Language, especially not history". Political brainwashing by Wardle was less successful, even though Harris's brain was made more accessible by the removal of a bushy growth at least three times,
