TRAINING DAY
Friday 28th January (the week after next) is a staff training day and a holiday for students.

APPOINTMENT OF HEAD
Dr Elkins will be retiring at the end of the summer term and a new Headteacher will be appointed for September 2000. The vacancy has been advertised in the educational press. The governors are responsible for the appointment and will be advised and assisted by advisers and officers from the Local Education Authority. The selection days are 1st, 2nd and 3rd March, so the name of Dr Elkins' successor will be known on 3rd March.

HELP NEEDED
Charities Week, which begins on Monday 14th February, will be raising funds to bring children from Belarus to Norwich in the summer. The children are still suffering the after-effects of the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. During their stay here, we intend to organise trips to places of interest, such as Pleasurewood Hills, the Sealife Centre and the Bure Valley Railway. A few hours in the fresh air each day will improve their health significantly.

Mr Banfield would welcome suggestions for days out, help with arrangements and names of any contacts who might assist. We would also like to give the children a complete health check, including a visit to a dentist or optician. Again, please contact Mr Banfield if you can help in this respect. To make the visit a success, we need to raise as much money as possible in Charities Week. Please let Mr Banfield know of any ideas which you may have for events and activities.
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
The Association's Jumble Sale takes place on Saturday week, 22nd January, at 2 pm at Eaton Parish Hall on Colman Road. Please sort out your jumble and deliver it to the school at any time or to the Parish Hall on the morning of the sale. The Committee would welcome help with setting up the sale in the morning and/or in the afternoon. If you can help, please give Polly Poliakoff a ring on 01603 506242 or 0780 3016368. The Association Committee is very concerned that the accommodation deficiencies at CNS which were identified in the OFSTED inspection reports have not yet been addressed and proposes to work with the governors and Head to campaign for the improvements which are necessary. Large-scale and active parental support will be a powerful weapon in the campaign and parents will be notified in a week or two of what is proposed.

CHANGE OF DATE
The Year 11 Chamber Concert, originally scheduled for next Thursday, 20th January, has been postponed until Friday 4th February at 7.30 pm in the Drama Area.

CLERK TO GOVERNORS
Mrs Madeleine Keep has combined the role of clerk and governor for may years, but as from April, clerks must not be governors. The governing body would be interested to hear from anybody who might be willing to take on the role of clerk. Please ring Mrs Keep (01603 458668) for more details: an honorarium is payable.

SALE
Ab Mathur of 10 Ty is keen to assist the victims of the Orissa Cyclone in India. There will be a sale of books, toys, CDs and cakes on Friday 11th February. Please let Ab or Mrs Taylor know if you can provide anything for the sale.
