TRAINING DAY
Next Friday, 28th January, is a staff training day and a holiday for all students. Teachers will be looking at the implications of the government's literacy strategy which will be continued through into secondary schools in the near future. Next week's Echo will be published next Thursday, 27th January.

MOCK EXAMS
The mock exams for Years 11 and 13, which were held throughout this past fortnight, have proceeded very smoothly. Apologies to Year 12 students who have lost the use of the common room and have had to find new territory: thanks for your co-operation. Students who missed exams through illness may be required to sit papers during the next two weeks: if this is the case, they will be notified by subject teachers.

ACCOMMODATION DEFICIENCIES
A representative of the local education authority has been invited to the governors' meeting on 2nd February to clarify the LEA's position with regard to the accommodation deficiencies at CNS which have been identified in two OFSTED inspection reports and in other safety reports. The governors hope that they will hear that positive steps are to be taken in the near future. However, if this is not the case, the proposal is to set up an action group which will seek to involve parents, staff and governors in a sustained and publicised campaign to put pressure on those who hold the funds for school buildings. The school has made significant progress on the other key issues for action in the OFSTED report: why can others outside the school evade their responsibilities?
JUMBLE SALE
The School Association's Jumble Sale takes place tomorrow, Saturday 22nd January, at 2 pm in Eaton Parish Hall on Colman Road. Thanks to those who have already provided jumble for the sale.. but it's still not too late for others to bring items along. Committee members will be at the Parish Hall from 10.00 am onwards and will be pleased to receive any further donations. If anyone is able to help in the morning or the afternoon (or both!), they will be welcomed. Following previous successful fund-raising events, the Association was able to commit a further £1500 to the £4500 it has already donated to help with the purchase of the new minibus. .

CONTRIBUTIONS
Bills for this term's peripatetic music instrumental music lessons will be sent out shortly. Students should pay in money at the Finance Office only during morning registrations and morning breaks. An early settlement of bills will be much appreciated. A number of students have not paid for the use of their individual lockers this year and Mr Burns will be contacting them during the next two weeks. It was only through the agreement of parents to pay a small rental charge, that we were able to provide secure lockers for all students and we wish to be able to continue offering this facility. The cost of the purchase of the lockers was high and was depended upon the agreement to pay the rental. And, finally, please don't forget the request for School Fund contributions, as set out in the letter which was issued last week. Your donations, however small, will allow us to continue providing the extras from which all students benefit.
