TRAINING DAY
Tomorrow, Friday, 28th January, is a staff training day and a holiday for all students. School resumes at 8.45 am next Monday, 31st January.

YEAR 13
The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 13 takes place next Thursday, 3rd February, from 5.30 pm onwards. The meeting will provide an opportunity to review the outcomes of the mock exams and to identify the learning objectives for the last remaining weeks of A level and Advanced GNVQ courses.

ACCIDENT
Best wishes to Robbie Garbutt of 9Cl who is in hospital recovering from a nasty accident at the top of Eaton Road. Students must recognise that the road is very dangerous at end of school, with through traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. Please take care and have a mind to safety at all times. The school has long argued that traffic calming measures and a cycle path are necessary on Eaton Road. The Governors' Premises Committee prepared a detailed proposal which was submitted to Norwich City Council, but which, as yet, has not been acted upon. We hope that the accident on Tuesday will bring home to those in authority that the safety of 1000 students who leave the school by the entrance on to Eaton Road is of paramount concern.

TOKENS
'Books for School' tokens are to be found on Walker's crisp packets, The Sun, The Times and Sunday Times. Please collect these and place them in the collecting box in the Hall.
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
Thanks to all helpers and those who contributed items to last Saturday's Jumble Sale. The profits are estimated at nearly £300. The next Association event is the Quiz Evening on Saturday 25th March.

GIRLS' SPORT
Both the girls' U14 and U16 football teams have reached the semi-finals of their respective Norfolk Cup competitions. The scores in the quarter finals were amazing: the U16 team beat Hellesdon 13-0 and the U14 team beat Acle 11-1! Norwich City may be after a striker, but there's no shortage of goal scorers among the girls at CNS. Congratulations, too, to the girls' U15 cross-country team of Debbie Brett, Zoe Denton, Rebecca Glen and Vicky Groves, who won the Norfolk Schools' Championship last Saturday.

ART AT CNS
The wood-carver, Mark Goldsworthy, is putting the finishing touches to his impressive sculpture, 'St Martin's Day', which has been erected on the front lawn of the school. The sculpture has been donated by a parent, who was prompted by the CNSU's intention to purchase the statue of 'Thomas Running' which is in the Hall. Ten students from Norwich School of Art will be producing a limited edition of prints which will feature different interpretations of the main building of the school. This commission has been made possible by the generosity of parents of former students who attended CNS. Former student Brian Thaxton, a retired architect and member of the Norwich 20 group of artists, will be painting the portrait of Dr Elkins which will eventually hang in the Hall.
