HALF TERM
The half term holiday begins after school next Friday, 18th February. Students return after the break on Tuesday 29th February at 8.45 am: Monday 28th February is a staff training day.

CHARITIES WEEK
Charities Week begins on Monday with a full programme of events, activities and fund-raising ideas. The usual favourites return with 'Stars in their Eyes' on Friday and 'Man, o Man' on Thursday, both at lunchtimes in the Sports Hall. There is a revival of 'Teachers' Blind Date' which will take place on Wednesday in the Drama room, which also hosts a Y8/Y9 talent contest on Monday and an appearance by 'Burley Shassey' on Tuesday. You can roller skate in the Sports Hall on Monday and skateboard on the hard area behind the Sports Hall on Wednesday.

There are plenty of sales and competitions to keep you interested: just read the master plan of activities outside Room 43 and the posters which are appearing around the school. Charities Week is always good fun, but the key objective is to raise as much money as possible for the charity we are supporting. All students will have seen the video presentation of the plight of the children who are the victims of the Chernobyl disaster and can have no doubt of their needs. The more money we can raise next week, the better the quality of experience they will have in Norwich in the summer. If every member of the school set out to contribute at least £5, we would exceed this year's target of £5000 significantly. Be generous: the children of Belarus deserve our help.

YEAR 10
The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 10 takes place in the week after half term on Thursday 2nd March. Students should be arranging appointments with teachers next week.
PETITION
Following the serious accident on Eaton Road, Dr Elkins has written to the Traffic Department at City Hall asking that traffic calming measures be introduced as a matter of urgency. The School Council is asking students to sign a petition supporting this need and parents are equally welcome to add their names: copies of the petition will be in the office and will be available at the Year 10 parent-teacher consultation meeting, as they were last night at the Year 11 meeting.

SCHOOL BUS
Students who use the 901 bus to Old Catton were issued with copies of the bus company's statement to take home to parents on Tuesday. The service will not operate after half term: the school has opposed this decision, but parents will need to contact the bus company itself if they wish to make a complaint.

THEATRE
Thirty Theatre Studies students watched the energetic and unique performance of Wilde's 'The Importance of Being Earnest' at Norwich Playhouse on Thursday of last week. And last Friday the Kaos Theatre Company came to CNS to lead a workshop on physical theatre, ensemble work and how to produce comedy. The whole package proved to be exhausting but highly illuminating, leaving students with a range of styles and techniques to discuss and put into practice. Tickets for 'Cabaret' on 9th, 10th and 11th March are on sale at lunchtimes in the Hall, price £4. We expect the show to be a sell-out, so buy now!

THANKS
Thanks to everyone who bought CNS charity Christmas cards: £250 was raised for the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and Amnesty International.
