CYCLES
All the bays in the locked area of the cycle sheds have been declared as unsafe and structural work is taking place to solve this problem. Parents and students should note that bicycles can only be left in the unlocked sheds and that there is a consequent problem of security. This week three cycles were taken from the unlocked sheds by outsiders: fortunately, the outsiders were recognised and the police are pursuing the matter. In these circumstances, the best option may be to walk to school or to use public transport, but if you do need to bring your cycle, make sure it has a very good lock.

SCHOOL COUNCIL
The School Council meets next Wednesday, 22nd March, period 5. The Council will receive feedback from Dr Elkins on his meeting with a City Council official where certain ways forward were identified and discussed. Agendas for the meeting will be available shortly.

TRAINING DAY
The Government is introducing significant changes to the conditions of service for teachers as from September and have instructed schools to provide an additional day in the summer term so that staff can be trained in the new procedures. The training day will take place on Tuesday 2nd May, which will extend the Easter break for students by one day.

'CABARET'
What a wonderful show! Last week 'Cabaret' played to packed houses on all three nights and astounded the audiences with the sheer quality of the show.
The leading roles were played magnificently. Dugald Ferguson, the MC, brought out the decadent yet fascinating charisma so essential to establishing the mood of the play.

Amy Glover was an alluring Sally Bowles, the love affair between the landlady and the Jewish greengrocer was movingly portrayed by Holly Leonard and Sam Filgate, and Tim Forster and Sally Brown brought out the essence of their roles with acting of a very high quality. Add to this the quality of singing and dancing and some superb cameo roles and you have a production which brought out the best of a very large cast and orchestra. All the production values such as costume, lighting, stage management supported the show, so thanks to all the unsung heroes who were involved. Mrs Wickham was responsible for everything and deserves every accolade available for what was, simply, a wonderful show.

ART REQUEST
The Art Department would like the loan of a mannequin (such as would be used for display in stores) complete with arms and legs (!), for displaying a student's costume design in the Year 11 GCSE Art Exhibition in May and June. The item will be well looked after. If anybody can provide or suggest somebody to contact, please get in touch with Mrs Maddocks in the Art Department.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
The Association believes that all parents should be concerned about this issue and hopes that there will be a good attendance at the forthcoming meeting on Advice about Drug Abuse. Next week's Echo will contain further information. And a date for your diary: the next Quiz Evening will be on Saturday 18th March.
