Friday 5th May 2000 - No. 15.30

DATES
This is a very busy and short half term and there are some key dates which need to be noted.
There are parent teacher consultation meetings for Year 12 next Thursday, 11th May, and for Year 8 on the following Thursday, 18th May, both meetings beginning at 5.30 pm. The Annual Meeting of Governors with Parents takes place on Thursday 25th May at 7.30 pm in the Sixth Form Common Room.

Study leave for Year 11 begins after school on Friday 12th May and for Year 13 after school on Friday 26th May. Key Stage 3 SATs for Year 9 take place next week, beginning on Monday 8th May: students have been notified of the timetable and the arrangements. GCSE practical exams are already underway and written papers for GCSE and A levels begin later this month.

WELCOME
We welcome Ms Jodie Sharp to the staff of the school: Ms Sharp will be working as a Learning Support Assistant within the Special Needs Department and we hope that she enjoys her time at CNS. Ms Sharp replaces Miss Lewis who retired at the end of last term.

BELARUS CHILDREN
Mr Victor Mizzi, Chairman of the Chernobyl Children Life Line, has written a letter of thanks to all students at CNS who were involved in Charities Week. Mr Mizzi says:

'The children of Belarus have very little in terms of material goods but they are a proud and happy people and cope with the problem of Chernobyl very well. I am sure that you will make good friends with them. I do thank you for your support and wish you a happy time with the children.'
DOME PERFORMANCE
Tomorrow, Saturday 6th May, at 2.00 pm in Norwich Playhouse, there will be a performance of the show which students from CNS, Taverham High School and KES, Kings Lynn, took to the Millennium Dome in March.

The show was much admired and enjoyed by the visitors to the Dome and we hope that many CNS students will be able to watch it tomorrow. Seats are free and advance booking is not necessary. Mrs Baylay will be happy to give any further information to those interested.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
On Saturday week, 13th May, the School Association is holding a 50/50 Auction at the school. Details are on the back of this copy of the Echo, so don't lose the opportunity to have your unwanted goods sold or to pick up a bargain.

The Association hopes that form groups and tutors are giving serious consideration to the opportunity to have their form rooms decorated and looks forward to helping with the arrangements for the 'paint-ins'.

GOVERNORS
The Governors' Annual Report to Parents will be issued to students to take home next week, together with information relating to the Annual Meeting with Parents on Thursday 25th May. The Governors hope that a large number of parents will attend and will wish to support the governors' continuing efforts to persuade the LEA and DfEE to effect the building improvements which two teams of OFSTED inspectors have deemed as necessary. A further incentive will be the opportunity to meet Mr Gordon Boyd, who will take over from Dr Elkins as Headteacher in September.
