END OF TERM
The school year ends at 2.20 pm on Thursday 20th July, the week after next. Please note that the last week of term will be Week 1: normal lessons will continue until period 4 on the Thursday, followed by the lunch break, a form period and a final assembly in the Sports Hall.

SPORTS DAY
Sports Day was cancelled yesterday, Thursday 6th July, as a result of a very damp field which would have created an unacceptable risk of accident and injury to those students participating in events. This Echo is being written in advance of today's arrangements so we hope that the programme has been able to take place today.

ACTIVITIES WEEK
The normal school timetable will be abandoned next week, beginning Monday 10th July, to accommodate the varied and exciting activities which will be available to students. There are residential trips which will be away from school for the whole week, 'mix and match' programmes which are partly based at school and which involve trips for part of the week, and school-based activities for those who have chosen to remain at home.

The school believes that there is real educational value in Activities Week. Students must remember that it is part of their learning programme and that full participation is expected from all students in whatever their teachers require. Activity leaders will keep a strict register of attendance which will be followed up if students are absent and will expect students to obey all instructions where Health and Safety risks may be involved. We hope that all students have a challenging and enjoyable week.
BELARUS VISITORS
The children from Belarus have been enjoying a packed programme of events and activities. This week they have visited London and Cambridge and today they are at the Sea Life Centre in Yarmouth. They have also enjoyed a trip on the Broads from Horning. They will be spending the whole of Activities Week in Skegness. Their programme also involves eyesight and dental checks and other medical care. We are grateful to the friends of the school who have offered their time to allow the children to benefit from the advanced facilities we enjoy in this country.

HOLT HALL
Students in Year 9 who are taking the Key Skills course have been at Holt Hall this week on a three-day residential course. The first party returned to school on Wednesday, having walked six miles, built rafts and paddled them across a lake, built shelters and cooked food on an open fire and carried out a number of problem-solving survival tasks.

The course has emphasised teamwork and survival skills and the students have enjoyed the different challenges which were presented to them.

CYCLE SAFETY
The staff at Colman First School are very concerned at the dangers which are presented to young children by CNS students cycling dangerously on the pavement. Please ride safely on the road in a way which does not put you or others at risk.

ECHO
There will be no Echo in Activities Week: The final edition this year will appear on Wednesday 19th July.
