SEPTEMBER DAWNS
Students were welcomed back for the Autumn term on Tuesday by their Form Tutors, Year Heads and by Mr Boyd, the new Headteacher. Normal school routines are now underway and we look forward to a term in which high standards are achieved by all students. With Summer-time behind us, all students in Years 8 to 11 are expected to follow normal school uniform requirements.

WELCOME
We offer a warm welcome to all newcomers to City of Norwich School and hope that their time here will be happy and successful. Joining the staff this term are Miss Baillie (PE), Mr Boyd (Headteacher & English), Mr Chisolm (Science), Mr Evans (Maths), Ms Polmuller (Art), Mrs Riley (D&T), Miss Tang (Languages), Mrs Young (Psychology). Mrs Eagling, Mrs Hammond, Mrs Morrison, Mrs Larwood and Mrs Banhan join us as Learning Support Assistants.

EXAMINATIONS
We are delighted with the Summer examination results. At Advanced Level, over 130 students completed courses. There were several distinctions in GNVQ and the best average point score in A levels for several years. Many students exceeded their expected grades as a result of the close monitoring and target setting that is a feature of Sixth Form work here. Some 34 students have achieved the high grades necessary (AA or ABB or better) to achieve the prestigious status of 'Norfolk County Scholar'. This year's GCSE results were also pleasing, with over 59% of students gaining five subjects at grade C or above. The percentage of students gaining at least one GCSE has risen to 98%.
UNIVERSITY NEWS
We have heard about the successes of several former students over the Summer, including the good news that Benjamin Watson has gained a distinguished First class degree in Chemistry from the University of York. Next month, students who have recently received their Advanced level results will be joining a wide range of Universities and Colleges. These include Sheffield, Cambridge, Nottingham, Anglia Polytechnic University, Essex and UEA. We wish them all good fortune in the next stage of their careers.

LIBRARY
Arrangements have been made for Year 8 students to join the Library. Other new students should ask for a membership form on their first visit. You should find all the information you need and plenty to interest you in our Library.

CANTEEN
Lunch prices in the canteen are now £1.50 for a full meal and £1.10 for a main course. The slightly shorter lunch break means that students need to queue up promptly when their turn comes. Next week, Years 10 and 11 have priority.

PHOTOGRAPHS
All students will be photographed individually next Tuesday morning, 12th September. There will also be team photographs - please bring kit - and family photographs where requested.

EATON ROAD
There is restricted parking on Eaton Road and parents who collect children from school are asked to park well away from the school entrance. Parents of students who are new to the school should note that, in collecting their children, they should not attempt to park in the school grounds.
