SIXTH FORM
The CNS Sixth Form partnership continues to go from strength to strength. From September the total number of Sixth Form students for the first time exceeded 400, with 416 students enrolled. This makes CNS one of the largest school-based Sixth Forms in the country.

A major factor in the increasing popularity of the Sixth Form has been the high quality of teaching and learning that takes place. In The Times survey of A-level results of all schools and Sixth Form colleges CNS came out as being one of the highest performing non-selective comprehensive schools in the country and the second highest achieving state school in Norfolk.

In fact, taking the results of all independent and state schools in Norfolk, CNS came fourth (with a score of 6.84 per entry) behind the third placed independent Norwich School (7.05 points per entry) and ahead of the fifth placed independent Norwich High School for Girls (6.76 points per entry).

TIMES OF SCHOOL DAY
In order to accommodate new courses, the times of the school day have been slightly altered for this school year. Curriculum arrangements will be reviewed shortly in order to plan for 2001/2002. School ends at 3.30pm but students are free to leave at 2.45pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. We do need to be aware of any students whose parents wish them to be supervised at school for quiet private study on Wednesdays and Fridays until 3.30pm. Please inform your son or daughter's tutor if you have not already done so.
GERMAN EXCHANGE
We extend a warm welcome to a group of 35 students and three staff from Gymnasium auf dem Asterstein in Koblenz who will be arriving in Norwich next Tuesday for a ten day visit. Led by Frau Pflug, Frau Gruber and Herr Tuttas, the group will be visiting London, Cambridge and the Norfolk coast as well as being received at City Hall. Students will also be spending some time in lessons. The exchange link is now 25 years old and we look forward to it continuing for many more.

YEAR 8 TUTOR EVENING
A meeting for parents of Year 8 students with Form Tutors will take place on the evening of Thursday 28th September. A letter from Mrs Smith, giving detailed arrangements for the meeting, has already been issued.

FUEL SHORTAGES
It is possible that if the present national fuel shortages continue into next week there could be an effect on supplies and services to the school. This is difficult to anticipate and normal arrangements regarding absence apply in the meantime. Parents of students who are unable to attend school on a particular day because of their own transport difficulties should notify the school office. If there are specific reasons for us having to alter lessons, a letter will be sent home explaining how the alterations will affect each Year group.

In the unlikely event of cancelled lessons without notice, it is important that all students have made arrangements with their families about what they should do and where they should go. It would be helpful if families could discuss this over the weekend.
