INTO THE SIXTH FORM
This week, students in Year 11 and their parents have had the opportunity to hear about the CNS-Hethersett Sixth Form. The range of qualifications and courses now available - at CNS and elsewhere - means that careful research needs to be undertaken in order to make the best choice at 16+. Year 11 Tutors, Sixth Form staff and careers staff are all available to help with this. Students already in the Sixth Form and subject teachers are also valuable sources of advice and information.

OPEN EVENINGS
During November, CNS opens its doors to new students who will be joining Year 8 in September 2001. Thank you in advance to all students and teachers who will be contributing to these important events. It means so much to newcomers to hear from 'old hands' what life in a new school is like. Year 7 students will be welcomed on 16th and 21st November.

HOME-SCHOOL AGREEMENT
There have been many positive comments about the new CNS Planners. Please check these regularly. The Home-School Agreement - formulated last year by a group of teachers, parents and Governors - is published in the CNS Planner. It would be helpful if parents of Year 8 students were to familiarise themselves with the Agreement since this is the basis for our partnership with parents.

QUIZ AND CHIPS
Details of the CNS Association event on 25th November are printed overleaf.
NORMANDY VISIT
In the week before half term 40 Year 9 students undertook an integrated Field Work visit to the Calvados region of Normandy. Organised by the History Department, students carried out a programme of study based on the theme of 'invasions'. Students were afforded many opportunities to develop their language skills and to examine the historical, architectural and artistic links between Normandy and Norwich. A fascinating, rewarding week, hard work and great fun. Thanks to Mr John, Mrs Mills and Mr Uddin for leading it.

ENGLISH ESSAY COMPETITION
We have heard that Amy Glover in Year 13 has won first prize in the Bishop Grosseteste College English Essay Competition 2000. The judges were impressed 'by Amy's articulate style which expressed complex ideas with clarity and precision'. Congratulations to Amy and to the English Department on this prestigious award.

PERICLES & DWARVES OF TYRE
Year 8 and 9 students are currently rehearsing for our Christmas Pantomime that will be performed in the Studio on Thursday 31st November and Friday 1st December. Tickets are now on sale at 12.45pm each day in the Hall. Price £3.

GREETINGS CARDS
In aid of Amnesty International and Stephen Lawrence Trust, greetings cards will be on sale at £1 for 10 in the Hall each break time. Cards have been designed by CNS students and staff. Please support this venture by buying one pack at least.
