MOCK EXAMS
All students in Years 11 and 13 are involved in Mock Examinations from Monday 5 February and continuing through until half term. Full details have been published and study leave (apart from Year 13 lessons in modular subjects) is available throughout the fortnight when students are not sitting examinations. A quiet study room will be available each lesson for those in Year 11 who wish to use it. Good luck to all involved.

Year 11 students are reminded that they need to bring their own dictionaries for the reading and writing papers in French and German. We cannot provide these and sharing is not possible. Dictionaries are not used in the listening papers.

'D' GRADERS
A letter has been sent home to all students in Year 11 who have current progress grade of 'D' in one or more of their subjects. The letter sets out some strategies for converting a 'D' grade into a 'C'. Proper preparation for the Mock Examination is essential and attendance at a workshop 'Preparing for your Exams' on 15 March is highly recommended. Reply slips regarding the latter should be returned to Mr Rix, please.

CHARITIES WEEK
We are delighted to announce that the 2000/2001 Charities Week, held in early December, has raised a very impressive £5,545. Congratulations to all students whose ingenuity and generosity made such a significant sum possible. Shortly, we will be making arrangements for a presentation to the Norwich Night Shelter, the cause voted for by students as the beneficiary of this year's appeal.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
A productive meeting of the School Council took place on Wednesday at which Year Group representatives debated issues ranging from student responsibility and the development of the buildings to the use of toilets and service at the canteen. School Council members will feed back at the next meeting of Year Councils.

GOVERNORS' MEETING
At their meeting on Tuesday evening, Governors reviewed our policies on Sex Education and on Child Protection. They discussed plans for the school curriculum in 2001/2002, including the chance for all students in Year 10 to take full courses in Modern Language, Technology and ICT.

SIXTH FORM 2001
Interviews of prospective Sixth Formers is now well underway. Over 150 of our own Year 11 students are hoping to join Year 12 in September together with many from other schools. Forty applications have been received to date from other schools, excluding the 30 or 40 students we expect to join us from Hethersett High School.

SPECIALIST SCHOOL APPEAL
The Appeal that will enable CNS to make a bid to the Government to become Norwich's first Technology College is moving ahead steadily. Many parents and friends of the school have already made contributions or pledges. If you have not yet responded to our Appeal letter, please do so as soon as possible. Remember, every £1 we raise locally could provide over £12 from the Government.
