WORLDWISE QUIZ FINALS
The CNS team participated in the national finals at the University of Sussex over Easter. In the final, CNS were up against the winners of the other semi-finals but finished third, behind King Edward's School, Birmingham and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Wakefield. This is the sixth time that CNS has reached the finals of this national competition, which attracts entries from over 500 schools around the UK.

The team captain, Owen Reading, has been selected to represent the UK team in an International Geographical Olympiad to be held in Vancouver, Canada, in July. Barry Grimes and David Wilson were the other team members. The main prize was £500 from the Field Studies Council for the school to spend at one of their field centres, but the other sponsors, Ordnance Survey, Geopacks and Nelson Thornes, gave various prizes including an OS mousemat, with a built in calculator, for the teachers in charge! Thanks to these sponsors and also to The John Jarrold Trust who sponsor the Norfolk competition.
Report by Mr Stannard.
SHAPE OF SCHOOL WEEK
At their meeting on 24 April and following consultation with staff, parents and the LEA, Governors discussed the shape of the school week. The main aim is to provide the appropriate curriculum for students in all Year groups. New national requirements do not sit easily with our limited accommodation. The difficulties of finishing at different times on different days have been raised but on balance Governors have decided that the best pattern involves a start at 8.35am for students, finishing at 3.30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and 2.45pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This will commence at the beginning of next term, September 2001.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION EVENTS
An interactive workshop 'Living with Teenagers' is planned for 14 May. On 5 May we have booked the Haymarket Charity Stall in the City Centre. Details overleaf.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
The discussion with parents at the end of last term about school uniform, revealed a wide range of views. Some parents prefer the traditional blazer and tie, for girls as well as boys, whilst others favour a less formal uniform. Governors have decided that whatever uniform we have it must be distinctive of our school and worn correctly by students. No change is planned for the new school year. However, research into smart and distinctive alternatives will proceed over the next few months with alternative arrangements being phased in from September 2002. Students and parents will be invited to express views on alternative possibilities that emerge.
