STUDY LEAVE
Study leave for Year 11 begins after school next Friday 11th May and for Year 13 after school on Friday 25th May (not Friday 18th May, as printed in last week's Echo.) . Year 12 study leave also commences on Friday 25th May in order that preparation for AS examinations can be completed. Year 12 lessons resume on Monday 25th June when A2 courses will commence.

YEAR 9 SATs
Key Stage 3 SATs for Year 9 take place next week, beginning on Tuesday 8th May: students have been notified of the timetable and the arrangements. Please would parents notify the school office if a student is unwell on a particular day and unable to attend. In particular, please note that the timing of SATs vary slightly from the normal times of the school day. Some tests start before the end of Form period and may run into break. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons the tests finish early : students will be free to leave the premises but must do so quietly since the rest of the school will be in normal session. Good luck to all in Year 9 for this important week!

ART LIBRARY
If you have borrowed books from the Art Department, please return them since they are urgently needed by other students.

SAM HUDSON
Former students and parents may be aware of the sad death of Sam Hudson during the Easter holidays. He was a student at CNS until 1997. His funeral took place at Earlham Crematorium on Monday afternoon. Mr Rix and Mrs Spradbery attended on behalf of the school.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY
But school starts at the normal time on Tuesday!
HEAF TESTS AND BCGs
The national immunisation programme against tuberculosis was halted in 1999 because of problems with the supply of vaccine. The Government has announced that the vaccine is again available. In September, the programme will be reinstated. Students currently in Year 10 are likely to be immunised next term and students in Year 9 in the Spring Term, 2002. Most students currently in Year 11 have been immunised. Those who have not will be invited to a special clinic once the GCSE examinations are over.

NORWICH MARKET PLACE
The City Council has launched the Norwich Market Place Ideas Competition 2001. Cash prizes will be awarded for the winning entries. The competition is to encourage innovative suggestions for improvements to the Market Place. The 'brief' is available from Room 408, City Hall, Norwich, NR2 1NH.

SPECIALIST SCHOOL BID
Our application to become a Specialist School in Technology will be scrutinised by an Inspector (HMI) from the Department of Education during a visit to CNS on Wednesday 16 May. We are pleased to have been allocated a visit. We believe that this means our bid is at least being considered by Mr Blunkett and his officials.

The benefits to all students of CNS becoming a Specialist School are immense. We will have better funding for equipment and staff and we will be able to improve some of our buildings. We need to do all that we can to show our school at its best on Wednesday 16 May.
