CNS AWARDED SPECIALIST SCHOOL STATUS

The exciting news of the week is that the Secretary of State for Education has announced that from September CNS will be awarded specialist school status. The bid submitted by the school in March has been successful and in spite of stiff national competition.

The success of the bid will result in enhanced funding to support teaching and learning, especially in mathematics, science, design & technology and ICT. CNS is set to become a 'centre of excellence' in these areas as well as offering diverse learning resources in all subjects and for the community. Links with local schools and business will be strengthened and additional staff will develop a range of outreach programmes. New learning and ICT facilities will be available to a wide range of users and over time CNS will be open on a drop-in basis to all members of the community.

Specialist status will help us to become a leader in preparing students with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to progress into employment, training and higher education. Thank you to all involved - students, parents, Governors, staff, community partners - whose enthusiasm and commitment have led to this great achievement.
TRAINING DAY
Next Thursday, 28 June, will be a staff training day and a holiday for all students.

SCHOOL FETE
The Fete takes place tomorrow, Saturday 23 June, from 1pm until 4pm. Make sure you come: it promises to be an excellent afternoon with things to buy and activities to participate in. All events will be supervised but those taking part in the skatepark activity do so at their own risk. If you are able to bring in any items such as cakes and plants on Saturday morning, these will be most welcome, as will your willingness to help set up stalls. The committee will be at school from 9.00 am and the Fete continues rain or shine!

Y8 & Y9 CONCERT
The final concert of the school year takes place next Wednesday at 7.30 in the Drama and Music Area. Solos, small ensembles, the Second Orchestra and the Jazzers will be performing. Tickets at £2 each from Mr Dickson.
DANISH EXCHANGE RETURNS
Skål!! On Monday Miss Wind, Mrs Spradbery and Mr. Burns along with 21 Year 9 students returned from a return visit to Aarhus in Denmark. Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and is a busy sea port. There are many interesting cultural sites to see including the Old Town, the Cathedral and the Art Gallery. Some people even managed to squeeze in some shopping! On Friday students from CNS and the host school visited Lego-land at Billund Many students have made new friends and some are even planning to go back and visit Aarhus again in the summer holidays. The hospitality shown to us by the Danish families was overwhelming and departing on Sunday was an emotional occasion. Thank you Miss Wind for organising the trip! Tusind tak!
