REMEMBRANCE
Each morning this week we have held special assemblies in which we remember
those who have sacrificed their lives in order that our rights and liberties
are preserved. Thank you to all who contributed to these tributes.
DIGITAL VIDEO PILOT
The school has just been informed that it is to be one of
only 50 schools nationally to take part in a digital video pilot organised by
Becta - the government body responsible for ICT in education. The pilot will
take place from November 2001 to March 2002.
As part of the pilot the
school will receive state-of-the-art digital video equipment that includes an
Apple iMac computer, iMovie software and a Canon digital camera.
Congratulations to Ms Polmuller and the Expressive Arts Team who submitted the
successful bid. The equipment will be used in Art, with KS4 students
undertaking a project on the Czech master animator Jan Svankmajer.
DIGGIT COMPETITION Melissa Burgess 8Dr, has been picked out
of 20,000 people to be a Web Watcher and will be taking part in a live Channel
3 television show at 7.10 am on 17 November. Melissa will be reading out
e-mails from her laptop computer. Good luck Melissa!
INTO THE SIXTH
FORM On Wednesday this week we held our second Sixth Form Open Evening.
A very large number of students from other schools visited us with their
parents. Thank you to all students and staff who helped to make such a positive
impression upon our visitors.

Rotary Club to enter a public speaking competition at the Walter Roy Theatre on
Thursday 14th March 2002. Teams of three young people (aged 12 to 15) will give
a presentation and all will be judged on the same standard. Prizes of
£100, £50 and £25 can be won for our school plus an
individual prize for the most praiseworthy single contribution. Details for
interested teams can be obtained from the school office.
OUT OF
SCHOOL CLUB
Would you be interested in your son or daughter attending
an Out-of-School Club for Years 8 and 9 at CNS? The Government is encouraging
more schools to open Out-of-School clubs through its National Childcare
Strategy and some funding is available.
A CNS Out-of-School club could
offer activities each day such as dance, ICT, model-making, sport, drama and
would be a place where young people could meet and socialise after school until
6pm. The club would be run by a committee of parents and staffed by qualified
childcare workers. A charge would be made but the Tax Credit can help to offset
the cost. If you might be interested, please complete and return to the School
Office the slip overleaf.
FAIRTRADE Fairtrade chocolate will
be on sale at break and lunchtime on Monday. 35p a bar! |
