A GOLD FOR ROSE
Rose Pearson of Year 13 proved her mathematical ability in the UK Senior Mathematical Challenge last year, scoring an excellent 91 out of 125 and earning a gold certificate. This mark puts her in the top 5% of participants in this prestigious competition (over 53,000 entries from 1360 schools). Woman power was further in evidence with Jenny Tavernor's gold performance. Silver certificates were awarded to Jennifer Brook, Elizabeth Maidstone, Annie Womack and David Mills, with creditable bronze performances from Nathan Chatten, Kate Chapman, Alex Lacey, Charlotte Petch, Edward Knapp and Thomas Stevens. As Year 11 students in a largely Sixth Form competition, Annie and Thomas are particularly to be congratulated.

TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS
Technology teachers hope to increase the range of materials available to students to improve the standards of their work. We would be grateful if parents could donate any off-cuts of fabrics, ribbons, wool, buttons, threads. We would also welcome contacts who might provide us with off-cuts of wood, plastics, card which we would be able to utilise. In the past these contributions, however small, have helped enormously. Any contributions can be passed to Ms Dallas. Please ring her to arrange collection of larger items.

We are also asking parents, who have skills in design, marketing and the manufacturing or catering industry, and who would be prepared to support the school with information, by delivering a talk to a class or small group to contact Ms Dallas. This will allow us to offer students local relevant industrial input to their design and technology courses.
QUEEN MOTHER'S FUNERAL
On Tuesday, we marked the passing of Queen Elizabeth with a two minute silence shortly after 11.30am. The 'thought for the day' considered the Queen Mother's contribution to our national life.
