SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
We are delighted to learn that CNS has been awarded a School Achievement Award as a result of achievements in 2000-2001. This national award, presented by the Government for overall examination improvements, recognises the hard work of all staff at the school.

SCHOOL SUMMER CONCERT
This will be held in the school hall on Friday 24 May at 7.30pm.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION AT CNS
Our new Community Education Worker, Thea Abbot writes : "Starting a new job is always challenging, but when the job itself is new and your are starting from the very beginning that is especially true. It's now almost three weeks since I began work at CNS and if I say it feels as if I have been here for ages, I mean that as a compliment to the school and its staff, not as an indication that its been dull! The whole project is exciting and the school and I are learning together how we can make the best use of our time and resources to do what the DfES calls "blurring the edges between the school and the community". I have lots of ideas and I'm talking to all sorts of individuals and agencies both within and outside CNS to find ways to develop links and activities. I'm particularly excited about the things which are planned for our first Technology Festival (19 - 25 June). We hope to have exhibitions from INSPIRE, our sponsor companies and some very positive links with our partner middle schools. Johnny Ball will be visiting the school to give a series of talks with the title 'Funtastic Science' and I hope that many families will be able to come and listen to this charismatic and lively speaker."

ARMY CAREERS
At the end of last term we had a very interesting visit from the Army. The army offers thousands of career opportunities backed by world-class training - plus an exciting action-packed lifestyle you won't find anywhere else. If you are 16 you are able to join.
FOOTBALL SUCCESS
Congratulations to Sarah Larnder, Jo Keatley, Mary Cann, Sarah McDermott, Anna Mellows, Natalie Humphrey and Rachael Wharton who won the Norfolk Schools' U19 5-a-side Football Tournament on Wednesday 17 April. They beat the Hewett School in the final 3-1, with an unbeaten record conceding only 2 goals in the whole competition!

MYSTERY PHOTOGRAPH
Sam Clements VINc was the winner of last term's mystery photograph competition. Organised by David Gallant, the photograph was taken in Morocco and formed part of a recent exhibition of his work. The Berghaus backpack can be collected from Mrs Shrimpling.

'ICT for GCSE'
We are proud to have several published writers at CNS. Most recently, Oxford University Press have published 'ICT for GCSE' co-written by Tim Roderick. The textbook is attractively presented, easy to access and provides a thorough grounding in all of the aspects of ICT at Key Stage 4. We hope that it proves to be popular with students across the country.

CNSA WHODUNNIT EVENING
Thank you to the School Association for organising our first Whodunnit evening. Dramatic renditions by staff and students led on to further questioning by teams of amateur sleuths. Ultimately, amidst stiff competition, the Library Team led by Sue Hughes, was victorious. Thank you to actors and contestants for supporting this new event.

KASIA KURKOWSKA
Kasia's funeral took place on Thursday morning at the Catholic Cathedral. We were represented by some of her closest friends, by her tutor, Mr Green, and by a small number of other members of staff. During her short time at CNS, Kasia made many friends and we learnt a great deal from her. Our thoughts remain with her parents, brothers and with all those who loved her at this sad time.
