YEAR 9 SATs
All students in Year 9 will be undertaking Standard Assessment Tests next week in Mathematics, English and Science. These tests - that are taken at the end of KS3 by 14 year olds across the country - are conducted under examination conditions and it is important that students are prepared for this. Details for next week have already been given out and any further questions should be directed to Form Tutors, Mr Sofroniou or Mr Rand. Good luck to all in Year 9 as you complete your revision this weekend.

APEX MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP
The Apex Mathematics Enrichment Group is running a Workshop at the INSPIRE Hands-on Science Centre on 25th May, from 10am to 12:30pm, for pupils in Years 6 to 9. If your son or daughter would tike to take part, application forms are available from Ms Orton. Cost for the morning is £2.50.

MATHEMATICS CHALLENGE of the MONTH SENIOR VERSION
How many zeros would there be after the last non-zero digit of 100! (100 x 99 x 98 x 97 x..........x5x4x3x2x 1)

JUNIOR VERSION Try to make each of the numbers 0 to 25 using the number 4 exactly four times. You can use any mathematical symbols and operations. eg (44-4)/4= 10. All entries to Ms Orton by 1st June.

CHESS NEWS
Three pupils from CNS took part in a simultaneous match against International Chess Master, Andrew Martin in the Forum last month. Joe Harris, Joseph Bell and Ewan Farrelly all fought bravely, but, like the rest of Norfolk's top Junior players, Andrew's experience proved too much for them. Ms Orton is starting a chess club in school: it will take place on Wednesday lunchtimes in Room 8 - all welcome.
CYCLIST SAFETY
There are concerns about the safety of cyclists, particularly around the Colman Road and South Park Avenue area. We would urge all those who cycle to school to be aware of the dangers and to give consideration to other road users and pedestrians.

YEAR 11 GCSE FINAL REVISION
Students in Year 11 are making generally good progress as the final GCSE examinations approach. Personal revision programmes should be well established by now : we recommend that some time is spent each evening in revising for a particular subject. Revision guidance is available for each subject and general advice notes, already circulated to students, are still available from Mrs Collard or Ms Bushell. Study Leave commences for Year 11 students on Monday 13 May and this will allow for a focused period of preparation in the final days before the examinations begin,

Y11 GCSE MODERN LANGUAGES ORALS
These take place on 14, 15 and 16 May for all French and German candidates. The oral tests form an integral part of the GCSE assessment and it is vital that students are aware of the time and place of their individual appointment.

GEOGRAPHY FARM VISITS
In the week beginning 13 May, Year 8 students will be undertaking visits to a local farm to look at agriculture as an example of economic activity.

SIXTH FORM BALL
This year's Ball takes place next Saturday 11 May at Dunston Hall. All members of Year 13 and staff are invited. Tickets are available from members of the Sixth Form Committee.

MURDER MYSTERY
