PARENTS' MEETING
WITH GOVERNORS
This takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday 23 May 2002 in the
Sixth Form Common Room. There will be an opportunity to hear about current
developments at CNS including our progress as a Technology College.
LINK PROJECT
A container will be going out to Eastern Cape, South Africa
with materials to support the Pakhama (Rise Up) Project run by LINK. The
project took Global Teachers out for the first time in 2001 to work in schools
alongside South African Project Workers. The project is tackling a skills
shortage in the teaching staff and local education authority through focussed
and targeted training. The following items would be greatly appreciated by
seriously under equipped schools: books, general resources, calculators
TV/video players, sports, science and computer equipment. Deadline for
donations is 10 June. Contact Ms Orton for more details.
NORWICH
CATHEDRAL GIRLS' CHOIR
New recruits are being sought for the choir which
undertakes to sing a regular pattern of services in the Cathedral, as well as
taking part in services and concerts throughout the diocese and beyond. Girls
aged between 11 and 17 on 1 September 2002 who are enthusiastic, musical and
who have a keen sense of commitment are welcome to apply. Please contact Mr
Dickson at school for further details.

SUMMER CONCERT :
FRIDAY 24 MAY
This will take place in the Hall at 7.30pm. Tickets on sale
£3 each.
ROAD SAFETY IN EATON ROAD
We are very pleased to learn that the petition handed to
the City Council some months ago about the dangers to pedestrians and cyclists
in Eaton Road has had a positive effect. Residents, parents and students joined
together in signing the petition following much discussion about speeding and
congestion problems. A speed table outside school and pavement widening are
being proposed. If the work is finally approved by the Norwich Highways Agency
Committee the work will be undertaken during the Summer holidays. This is good
news and shows us all what concerted community action can achieve.
AS/A2 EXAMINATIONS This week, students in Years 12 and 13
began their AS and A2 examinations. Lessons continue until 24 May, examinations
notwithstanding. Thereafter, students are on study leave. We wish all Sixth
Form students the best of luck in final examinations.
YEAR 9
SATs
Year 9 students conducted themselves well in their first
taste of public tests last week. Year 9 SATs are taken in Mathematics, English
and Science. It is important now that students focus on all of their subjects.
Teachers will be determining final levels for 'Teacher Assessments' towards the
end of term.
YEAR 8 FARM VISITS
All Year 8 students have participated in a visit to a local
farm this week. Students were able to study local land use, the economics of
agriculture as well as basic mapwork and navigation skills. The visits proved
successful and students returned to school refreshed and (having washed their
hands thoroughly) fragrant. Thanks to Mr Finch and the Geography team for
planning this activity. |
