TECHNOLOGY FESTIVAL
A range of interesting activities have been featured at CNS this last week. A permanent display in the Hall has attracted much interest and our various visitors - Inspire, Ken Farquhar, Johnny Ball - have provided many new insights into science and mathematics. Middle Schools and parents have joined CNS students and staff during the week. Many thanks to our sponsors for their support and to Thea Abott, our Community Education Worker, for her organisation.

TECHNO-FETE
The sun shone weakly, the bouncy castles wobbled and Fairways First danced nimbly around the maypole. We were honoured to have Lobster Thermidor (see Robot Wars BBC2 this evening) and Millennium Bug to open the fete and the Strolling Players and Jazz Band provided some great entertainment. Thanks to the great efforts of the organisers The Fete raised almost £3000 and this will go towards purchasing theatre lighting for the Hall.

KS3 SPORTS DAY
This is arranged for next Thursday 4 July for students in Y8 and Y9. Students who use them must bring their own inhalers and medication for hayfever. All students are advised to bring sun cream, hats and a good supply of drink.

KS3 CHAMBER CONCERT
Ensemble and solo items will be played by members of Y8 and 9 in the Music and Drama Area, Thursday 4 July at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £2 are available in advance from Music teachers. All welcome.

SCHOOL MEALS
The cost of a fixed price two course school meal, and the value of a Free School Meal, will rise by five pence to £1.60 in September. If you are on Income Support or in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance, you are eligible for Free School Meals for your child. Please contact the school office for an application form.
LOCKERS
Please empty your locker before the end of term and hand your locker key to your Form Tutor on the last day of term. Throughout the summer holiday lockers will be checked, assessed, repaired and replaced where necessary. There is no guarantee to students that the locker they have this year will be the locker they will have next year. If any student has lost their locker key then a replacement will cost £2-50, which should be paid to Mr Burns.
Students wishing to have a locker next year can beat the queues by paying by cheque this term, and keys will be ready for you first day back in September. Cheques should be made payable to: CNS S/F Account and handed in to the Finance Office who will issue a receipt. This receipt must then be taken to Mr Burns who will up-date the information on the computer. All outstanding debts must be cleared before a locker is re-issued to a student.

UK JUNIOR MATHEMATICAL CHALLENGE
CNS was one of the 3237 schools to take part in 2002. 31 students received a Bronze Certificate, 9 Silver and special congratulations to Claire Rymarz 8Kr, Eleanor Slorach 8Dr and Ashley Ward 8Cm who achieved Gold awards. Claire was also Best in School and the only one whose score was so high as to take her into the Junior Mathematical Olympiad on 11 June. Well done everybody!

SCHOOL REPORTS
Year 8 and Year 10 school reports will be issued to students to take home on the last day of term Friday 19 July. Students will have an opportunity to preview their reports with their Tutors on Monday 15 July.

WORK EXPERIENCE STARTS
Good luck to all students in Year 10 who commence work experience on Monday. Exciting and challenging times lie ahead for students. The preparation that has been undertaken over the last few months will ensure that the fortnight is successful. Remember, if you are ill on a particular day and cannot attend you need to phone the employer as well as Miss Wind at school.
