SUCCESS FOR ALL
Preparing for September, special Assemblies have been held
to explain to students in Years 8, 9 and 10 some of the new arrangements that
we will be introducing in September. A leaflet and letter about this have been
sent home for parents' information.
UNIFORM A reminder that
the new uniform comes into effect in September. The fleece and polo shirt can
be purchased in the school wear department at John Lewis plc. All items of
uniform, footwear and property should be clearly labelled with the student's
name.
NEW PROJECTS TO START Two projects will commence next
year as a result of successful bids. BT will sponsor a joint CNS-Heartsease
project on Recyling. And the New opportunities Fund will enable us to set up
the first After School Club in a Norfolk Secondary School.
KS3
CONCERT AND ARTS DAY
On Thursday 4 July some sixty KS3 students performed an
upbeat programme to an appreciative audience. Singing, percussion, guitars and
the Second Orchestra playing the 'Black Adder' theme were all enjoyed. Several
soloists, including recital of some difficult piano pieces, did themselves
justice. And on Tuesday 16 July CNS mounted its first KS3 Arts Day. All members
of Year 8 were involved in dance, drama, music and art activities that
culminated in an open-air performance at the end of the day. Well done to
students on their participation and to all Arts staff for the careful planning
that made the day so successful.
KORFBALL U15 The U15 team
including six CNS students won their tournament in National Youth Day in Kent
recently!
FOOD - BEHIND THE SCENES Mrs Dallas and CNS
students have contributed to a recently published CD Rom on food manufacturing
that takes an unusual look behind the scenes!
REPORTS AND KS3
RESULTS will be issued to students on Friday afternoon. |
ACTIVITIES WEEK
A sprinkling of comments from some of our Activities Week Leaders
Out and About: Excellent week of camping, canoeing, raft building, archery,
pioneering, orienteering and zip wire
. Enjoyed cooking our food on
camping stoves. Kent: Traditional rope making, all onto a submarine, walking in
heavy rain, whole minibus singing to 'Queen' , soaked at Thorpe Park.
Morocco and the High Atlas: 'The best week of my life,' said one. Street
touts, monkeys, mules, Bill Clinton and the matchless generosity and warmth of
the Berber people. No one wanted to return home it was that good. But
hopefully, Mr Maddocks' baggage and Lucy J's sleeping bag will return soon.
Sailing: Best year for a long while, all managed to sail within a day or
two and demonstrated their skills. A credit to themselves. Great Escape:
Jumping in the river (out of choice!), abseiling upside down, bowling in the
dark, lunch on the beach, shopping in Covent Garden. Riding in Lowestoft:
Horses were ridden, led, groomed, fed, watered and petted. Highlights were the
rides on the beach and the lessons on acrobatics and gymnastics on horseback.
All had a wonderful time - students, teachers and horses. Exemplary behaviour
commented on. Mud everywhere! Drama Extravaganza: Dance workshops at the
Pineapple Studios, 'Fame', Backstage tour of National Theatre, 'Woman in
Black', seven brilliant performances on Friday by a fabulous group of students.
Real Time News: A great group this year. Discovered and developed new
skills, produced some fine front pages, had lots of fun, and even found an
answer to Mr B's problem! Cycling: One of our very best weeks - kids were
wonderful. Visited places such as Loddon, Reepham and Lyng. Most managed to
cover over 150 miles in the 5 days and returned stronger and fitter as a
result. Ardeche: 'CNS is the fastest canoe group I've led,' said the
Ardeche river leader. The best group in 16 years (ie ever!) and the weather
.. excellent!
Thank you to all staff and students for making this
year's Activities Weeks one of the best yet! |
