YEAR 10 CATERING
Students spent an enjoyable and informative afternoon
having a guided tour of the school's catering kitchens. Health & Safety of
the work force were emphasised along with excellent standards of food handling,
hygiene and control. Our thanks to Mrs Jill Ward, Supervisor, and Ms Sue Brown
our new cook!
FOOD TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIAL VISITS Using the
facilities at City College Norwich Hotel School and the expertise of the Chef
Joe and Master Baker Peter Hallam, the students enjoyed a valuable work
experience. The bakers made French and Italian bread, Dutch sausage rolls and a
German cake. In the restaurant kitchen other students worked as a team to
produce almond and chick pea curry enhanced with fresh coriander, fajitas with
fresh salsa, English fruit fool and traditional steamed puddings with custard.
Thank you to City College, parents for your support and the students. look out
for the photos!
'BASELINE' TESTS
Students in Years 8, 10 and 12 undertook 'baseline' tests
on Tuesday. The results of these - together with tests and examinations already
taken (KS2, KS3 or GCSE) - will enable us to set Minimum Target Grades or
levels for each student in each subject. These targets will be shared with
students and parents towards the end of this term.
NEW UNIFORM
Many positive comments have been received - from students,
parents and members of the public - about the new uniform. Please note that the
only polo shirt permitted is that supplied by John lewis embroidered with the
CNS logo. Other dark blue polo shirts are not permitted. Any parents who would
like assistance in acquiring the new uniform should contact Mrs Seddon at
school.
CNSA - ACCOUNTANT NEEDED
The School Association is seeking an accountant with a
practising certificate for audit purposes. Please contact the school, asap, if
you are able to help. |
YEAR 11 PROGRESS
On Thursday evening, many parents of Year 11 students
attended a meeting to discuss the best ways of helping students to achieve
success this year. There has been a good work ethic amongst most Year 11
students at the start of term and, with parental support, this is the basis for
creditable performance at GCSE level. Queries about ways to help improve
performance to : Mrs Collard, KS4 Co-ordinator, or Mr Watts, Year Tutor.
IMPROVED PREMISES It is encouraging for all who work and
study at CNS to see further examples of small scale improvements that were
completed during the Summer holidays some as part of our development as a
Technology College. The main office has been re-sculpted in order to provide
appropriate reception facilities for visitors and students, many classrooms
have been decorated and carpeted and a new Design Technology workshop has been
created by enlarging and improving an existing space. Additionally, the ICT
network has been upgraded to provide better connections and fuller resources.
THE NORWICH JUNIOR CHESS CLUB
The club is meeting at CNS now every Saturday in term time
in the English block from 10 to 12 noon. New members are welcome - beginners to
advanced. First session is free, then £1 per morning. Enquiries to 01603

SAFER CROSSING OUTSIDE SCHOOL
Thanks to the campaign mounted as part of our work on
'Safer and Healthier Journeys to School' the new crossing outside school was
completed in readiness for the new term. Students need to be sure to make use
of the crossing and, at all times, to conduct themselves outside school in a
way that is safe and brings credit to the school. Smoking outside school
creates a poor impression - as well as being unhealthy - and is therefore not
tolerated.
YEAR 8 TUTOR EVENING Letters will be sent shortly
to invite parents to meet with Tutors on 26 September 2002. |
