SAD NEWS
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Gary
Peruzzi, 9Ph, as the result of a traffic accident last Saturday. This tragic
news came as a terrible shock to the students and staff who knew Gary; our
thoughts are with his family and with all those who loved him. Gary was a brave
boy who dealt with problems and setbacks in a determined way. He set an example
for all of us who were lucky enough to get to know him. We miss him.

YEAR 10 PARENTS'
CONSULTATION
This took place on Thursday evening. The beginning of Year
10 is one of the most important times in a student's school career. A
purposeful start to Key Stage Four courses stands students in good stead for
success over the ensuing four or five years. Many useful discussions took place
on Thursday that will support this. Thank you to Mr Sofroniou for organising
the evening.
QUIZ AND CHIPS NIGHT This was a very enjoyable

ANNUAL PARENTS'
MEETING
On Wednesday evening, Governors met with parents for the
Annual Meeting. Their Annual Report was presented - with each Chair of
Committee giving a short introduction to the relevant section. The sense of
partnership between teachers, Governors and parents in ensuring that all
aspects of CNS continue to improve was evident. If you were able to come, thank
you for your commitment to our school.
AIDS AWARENESS DAY AIDS
Awareness ribbons are being sold in school this week to mark the national
event. This year, AIDS Awareness Day is particularly poignant as reports are
received of the horrific scale of the problem in certain parts of the world.
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome spreads as a result of unprotected sex with
an infected person. It leaves sufferers vulnerable to many forms of infection.
Sex and Relationships Education is an element of our RE and Citizenship course
for all students. Those in Years 8, 9 and 10 are undertaking this element at
present.
CHARITIES WEEK IS NEXT! The programme for Charities
Week next week will be published shortly. Following the student vote, the good
cause to be supported this year is the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Posters about the
Trust and its work are on display around the school. On Friday this week, all
students will be invited to attend a presentation during Assembly Time at which
the work of the Trust will be further explained. Cystic Fibrosis is a disease
that still affects many children and young people. Earlier this year, it
claimed the life of Kasia Kurkowska and our fundraising efforts next week are
dedicated to her memory. An 'unusual' range of activities is planned and each
lunchtime a major event will take place. The spirit of Charities Week is a CNS
tradition and the excellent leadership by older students - especially Sixth
Formers - lies behind this. It is important that events do not cause offence,
however. Those involved in major events, particularly, have a responsibility to
ensure that decency and good taste are maintained. |
