MATHS CHALLENGE
Congratulations to Sam Dolman who beat the Sixth Form Mathematicians at their own game - Mathematics!! In a particularly tough UK Senior Mathematics Challenge, Sam's Silver Certificate winning performance is much to be commended. Other Year 11 pupils also performed well - Pip Coen (also Silver), Suzanna Hayter and Polly Preston (both Bronze) were amongst our 8 winners. It was left to Amy Ackroyd (Year 12, Silver), Owen Reading (Year 12, Bronze, Beth Maidstone and Jenny Tavernor (Year 13, Bronze) to uphold the honour of the Sixth Form.

The Robot Wars competition is being re-launched Monday 16 January. Further details can be found on the notice board by the staff room. Robot Wars Lobster Thermidor and another robot will be in school Monday 16 January 12.25 - 1.10 in the Main Hall - come and meet the designers and their robots.

DRAMA NEWS
The Drama Studio has recently been re-equipped with four new lights and curtains to screen off the toilets during productions. Poles were fitted to accommodate this facility. The funds came from the proceeds of the last four productions at CNS. They were all put to good use during the fabulous Mammoth Sails Tonight last week.

PROGRESS REVIEW DAY
All parents should by now have received a letter concerning the Progress Review Day on 14 January. Students come to school for their interview only, unless otherwise requested. Would parents please return the reply slip to school by Monday 16 December? Thank you.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY
Term ends on Friday 20 December 2002. Sixth Form lessons end at lunchtime. Main School students end at 2.45pm as normal. During the two week break the School will be closed, re-opening again on 6 January.
THE MAMMOTH SAILS TONIGHT
The Lower School performance played to three packed audiences last week. We were invited to share in the quest by Sir Andrew the Bold of Dunfermline (Daniel White) for his Queen. Princess Alyson (Flo Shippey) - a Norwegian version of Kylie - was the fortunate lady. Sadly, though, (and to the extreme displeasure of Princess Jeannie (Natasha Vaughan-Williams)) her heart was lost to the solemn Sea Captain Sir Patrick Spens (Thomas Packer). Jamie the Jester (Bijan Arasteh) acted as our guide through space and, thanks to Princess Amy of Farrago (Phoebe Thomas), time! Remarkably, the ice floes were replaced by a French Forest and everyone seemed happy. Except the Trolls, of course. The much heralded cardboard set - and the ice-berg-cum-mammoth - complemented a wonderfully exuberant and versatile cast who provided a terrific show. Thank you to all involved, to Dr Ranyard who directed the music and to Mrs Baylay, the show's director.

SIXTH FORM PRIZES
On Tuesday evening next week we will be welcoming back to CNS students who completed their A Level studies here in the Summer. Special prizes and examination certificates will be presented.
