ROBOT WARS COMPETITION
Apologies for the misprint of the date in last week's Echo. The competition is now running. Please see Technology teachers for a form to win the chance to make a robot with a company called Itron.

FOOTBALL BOOTS
In view of the fact that we are now in the season of traditionally less favourable weather, which often causes pitches to be slippery, we would like to remind parents that for outside games, football boots and shin pads should be worn.

YEAR 8 BASKETBALL
This competition was held during the last two weeks. All forms entered a team and all games were keenly contested. The final was between 8Ws and 8Co. After a period of extra time 8Ws finally emerged the winners. Congratulations to Sports Leaders who organised a good tournament.

PROGRESS REVIEW DAY
Parents will receive a letter after the holiday giving the time of student interviews on 14 January. On the day, students attend school for their interview only. The only exception to this is that some Year 11 students will be asked to join revision classes at particular times.

YEAR 12 REPORTS
Students in Year 12 will receive School Reports on Friday morning. These have been written by subject teachers and include an indication of the standard at which each student is currently working. The reports also include 'Minimum Target Grades' that give a broad sense - based on GCSE results - of the final AS results that might be expected. It should be the aim of each student to match or exceed his or her target grade. The Progress Review Day on 14 January will give students and parents a chance to discuss the report with the relevant Sixth Form Tutor.

PRESENT PERFORMANCE
Students in Years 8 to 11 and 13 will receive from their Tutor on Friday a summary of their present performance in each of their subjects. 'Minimum Targets Grades' (Y10 to 13) or 'Minimum Target Levels' (Y8 and Y9) are also indicated. The aim of each student needs to be to exceed his or her minimum target grades or levels by the end of the relevant Key Stage. There will be opportunity to discuss present performance and steps needed for improvement at the Progress Review Day on 14 January.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT
The seasonal Concert took place on Thursday last week in the Hall. Traditional Christmas music - starting with the Jazz band - was combined with upbeat and entertaining alternatives. Soloists Emma Mann, Sebina O'Brien and Hannah Allchin-Kolyska deserve special mention. Their performances left the audience entranced. The final performance of Bizet's L'Arlesienne by the School Orchestra was powerful and well judged and brought a thoroughly enjoyable evening towards its end. Special tributes were paid to Mr Dickson at his last concert at CNS. He leaves us to take up his new post as Assistant Headteacher at Wymondham HS in January. Our music has benefited hugely from Mr Dickson's leadership over almost ten years. We wish him well in his new post.

PRIZES and AWARDS
It was a pleasure to be able to welcome back to CNS on Tuesday evening former Year 13 students and to hear of recent exploits. We wish you all well. And each morning this week, students in Years 8 to 11 have been presented with awards for Credits, Academic Achievement and Service to the School.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY
School will remain closed for the two week break. We all resume on Monday 6 January at 8.35am. We wish all CNS families a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
