MATHEMATICS NEWS
Amongst our excellent results for the UK Intermediate Maths Challenge which members of Years 10 and 11 took before half term, came the exciting news that two Year 11 students have qualified to take part in the European Challenge, inexplicably called The Kangaroo. This time it was Philip Coen's turn to earn the title of Best in School, coming ahead of fellow Year 11 students Sam Dolman, Luke Brambleby and Robert Malone, who also reached the Gold Standard. A very creditable performance by Joe Harris earned Year 10 a Gold Rating too. With no less than 8 Silver awards and 23 Bronze Awards, Key Stage 4 students have set a high standard for Year 8's to aim for when they tackle their Challenge next month.

Extra Y11 Classes: In order to support Year 11 students in the run up to GCSE, extra Mathematics classes are taking place after school on Thursdays in Room 8. These are primarily aimed at students needing help in reaching Grade C, but those targeting Grade B will find them useful too. At the end of the Easter holidays, a short Easter Revision Course is being held for those aiming for Grades A and A*. Students will not only be looking at the Higher Level GCSE topics, but also be given a taste of Mathematics beyond school level.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Students have taken full advantage of two out of school activities which are running. A group of 14 are working towards a Basic Certificate in First Aid provided by the Red Cross and a second course is to be booked for those who failed to get a place on the current one. On Friday evening a group of 25 students and staff met for an hour of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, led by Richard Codling a qualified instructor for Yoga and the martial arts. Everyone felt both invigorated and relaxed by the session. Classes continue after school on Fridays. Our programme of activities continues to develop with plans for Fencing, Life Drawing, Archery, Circus, Magic and Science and Han Mudo all being planned. So look out for more details in The Echo and around school in the next few weeks.

EASTER HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
A date for your diaries. We are continuing our successful Family Learning activities with an Egyptian Day to be held at CNS on 24 April. Castle Museum will be bringing the X-rays of their famous mummy. There will be Egyptian Dance classes, an arts and hieroglyphics workshop and more. Come for the day and bring a picnic lunch. COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
