"THREE SISTERS" by Chekhov
This year's production - performed in the Hall from 27 February to 1 March - was eagerly anticipated by many of us who had learned that this complex play was to be performed by not one but four separate groups of actors. A liberal interpretation and a somewhat mocking approach were planned. How would the intense Chekhovian themes stand up to such irreverence? The vigour and intensity of a large and focused cast (casts?) held the audience and provided some telling insights as well as plenty of humour. The interplay between characters and scenes was well crafted and some of the 'business' - clocks, the samovar, the table cloth antics - was hilarious. Congratulations to everyone involved - the cast, crew and many staff helpers. And thank you to Mrs Wickham for her sharp and inspirational direction.

AMNESTY YOUTH CONFERENCE
Nine students attended Monday's Annual Amnesty Youth Conference in London. Guest speakers included Yishay Mor, James Savage and Miguel Puerto who spoke about the rights of imprisoned Israeli soldiers. Later on students participated in workshops on The Rights of Children, The Death Penalty and Justice for all in Russia. Thank you to all who attended and to Mr Hadden for accompanying the group. On Thursday, the group mounted a vigil in the Hall.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK
CNS students participated in 'Celebrating Science', a major Norwich event at The Forum on Friday 7 March. Our work involved modelling software as part of the International Project that we have established with The Forum. Both local MPs - Charles Clarke and Ian Gibson - attended the event and spoke to students. And on Friday evening, the Science in the Community event at Inspire included a presentation by our Community Education Worker Thea Abbott.

FOOD IN FARMING CHALLENGE
This year CNS is taking part in this challenge along with 10 other schools. Eight schools will be selected to attend the two days of the Norfolk Show and display their work.

CNSA QUIZ & CHIPS EVENING
A very enjoyable, fun evening was successful in raising £450 for the school. Well done and many thanks to all involved in the organisation of this event.
ENGINEERING ROAD SHOW
On Monday afternoon all in Year 9 and Year 10 will attend this performance by Impact Theatre. Each student will receive an Engineering Road Show pack containing further information. At the end of the session students will be asked to complete a questionnaire which will be entered into a prize draw giving the chance to win an X' BOX! There will be other prizes to win during the show!

CHESS NEWS
Both Under 19 and Under 14 teams have found the going tough at their first appearances in the Norfolk Schools' Championships for several years, but are to be congratulated on taking part! Only CNS and Norwich School entered the Under 19 competition - well done to Petrit Malo (Year 10) for saving us from a blank score sheet. The final score of 3 - 1 reflects the strength that Norwich School has developed over a number of years. Max John was top scorer for the school in the Under 14 tournament with 31/2 out of 4. The team was narrowly pipped for Bronze Medal position in a strong field. We hope for greater success next year! Chess club meets in Room 8 on Thursday lunchtimes - all ages and abilities welcome, and CNS also hosts the Norwich Junior Chess Club on Saturday mornings. (Phone the organiser on 01603 621184 for details)
