SCHOOL EXAMS

School exams begin next Monday, 15th June, for Years 8, 9, 10 and 12: timetables have been published and a great many room changes will be involved. Year 12 students have leave of absence for the duration of the exam period and the Sixth Form Common Room will again be used as an exam room.

These examinations will give students, parents and teachers an important indication of attainment levels in each subject and will provide valuable experience of the conditions which apply to the taking of public examinations such as GCSE and A level.

COMPUTERS

All students were issued with a leaflet yesterday giving details of the school’s proposal to provide computer courses for parents. We hope that many parents will be interested in this opportunity. Please return the reply slip to the school as quickly as possible.

And, to give added encouragement to all actual and potential users, Adobe Systems, Europe has donated over £2,000 of very sophisticated software for use on the CNS network. The company provides state-of-the-art software for artwork, photo design and desk top publishing which is used by designers all over the world. The software which has been licensed to the school (and which no other school yet possesses includes Photoshop 5.0, PageMaker 6.5, Illustrator 7.0 and Acrobat 3.0.

Mr Roderick will be using Photoshop with students during Activities Week, but wonders if there are any parents who have expertise in this area who would be willing to come into school and pass on any of their skills: if so, please e.mail him on T.Roderick@cns.norfolk.sch.uk Thanks to Adobe for its generosity!

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

Detailed information about the School Fete, which takes place only a fortnight from tomorrow, on Saturday 27th June, is given on the back of this copy of the Echo.

Money from the sale of raffle tickets has been coming in very slowly: please do your best to sell the tickets and to let the school have the stubs and the cash!

JAZZ OCTET

The Jazz Octet has been invited to perform at a Civic Reception at Norwich Castle next Monday evening, 15th June. The Reception, arranged by Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council, has been arranged to welcome the new Vice-Chancellor of the UEA, Mr Vincent Watts. We are delighted that the great and good of Norfolk will have the chance of experiencing the quality of CNS music first hand!

FARM VISITS

Once again Year 8 classes have had the opportunity to sample the sights, sounds and smells of a working farm, as part of the programme of study for Geography.

Malthouse Farm, which is situated in the Tas valley, combines both dairy and arable farming, and is ideal for study. One group was able to experience a storm first hand from the middle of a field! Thanks to the farmer, Mr Tim Sheldrake, and his family for giving our students the chance to escape the classroom and to see some real life.

FRIENDS PROVIDENT

Apologies to those parents who tried to telephone Friends Provident by using the phone number given in last week’s Echo. The fax number was given in error and the correct phone number is 01223 541900.
