SCHOOL EXAMS

School examinations continue for part of next week for Years 8, 9 and 10. Normal timetables will come into place progressively as the week goes on.

The exam timetable for Year 12 continues throughout next week, with lessons being resumed on Monday 29th June.

NEW INTAKE

The meeting for September’s Year 8 intake and their parents takes place on Thursday of next week, 25th June at 7.30 pm.

We anticipate an intake of 260, which is larger than anticipated, but which reflects the continuing popularity of CNS for students and parents. Students will be divided into small groups and will spend the first half of the evening with CNS staff who will give them introductory information about the school. Parents will meet in the Hall and will meet Dr Elkins, Mr Baker, who will be Head of Year 8, and Mrs Salmon, Chairperson of the School Association. Afterwards, parents and students will have the opportunity to meet staff and to gain detailed information on a range of topics, including uniform, music tuition, foreign language teaching and special needs provision.

Thanks in advance to those students who will be acting as guides at the start of the evening.

SCHOOL MAGAZINE

Articles, features, creative writing, black and white drawings, cartoons and photographs are invited for inclusion in this year’s school magazine. Please see Mrs O’Brien in the English Department for further information and advice.

The magazine will be published in July and is issued free to all students. CNS has a complete collection of school magazines from 1910 onwards in the Library.

SUMMER FETE

The Summer Fete takes place a week tomorrow, Saturday 27th June, from 2.00 pm onwards. We cannot believe that the bad weather will continue and look forward to a warm sunny day!

Any donations of toys, plants, bric-a-brac and tombola items will be very welcome. Students in Year 8 will be given a carrier bag in the hope that parents will contribute items which can be sold. The plate in the Year 9 bag is for cakes which will be welcome on Friday 26th June, but, better still, on the Saturday morning.

Features this year include a 5-a-side competition, the CNS Strolling Players and the CNS Wind Band. There will be a wide range of stalls and games, together with refreshment stalls and a barbecue.

JAZZ OCTET

The CNS Jazz Octet gained many new fans and performed with great flair at the reception for the Vice Chancellor of the UEA at the Castle last Monday.

The octet (Rob Webb, Jon Piper, Lucy Smith, Peter Chamberlin, Stefan Wasyliw, Tom Richardson, Claude Jovinho and Rob Blower) will be performing at Blickling Hall tomorrow evening. Future bookings include the ‘Music for Youth’ Competition in London in July and the re-opening of the Norwich Arts Centre in November.

CAMBRIDGE BLUE

We have heard that Emily Norton, who left CNS last summer, has been awarded a ‘blue’ for basketball. Congratulations to Emily, who is studying Law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
