STAFF TRAINING DAY

Next Thursday, 2nd July, is a training day for staff and a holiday for students. Friday 3rd July is a normal school day and careful checks will be made on attendance.

SIXTH FORM INDUCTION

A three-day induction course for students intending to enter the Sixth Form in Year 12 in September begins next Monday, 29th June. A special programme has been arranged for students to allow them to gain a taste of Sixth Form courses. Numbers are slightly up on last year and we welcome a number of students from schools other than CNS, Hethersett and Long Stratton, from where our intake has traditionally come. We hope the induction course proves interesting and enjoyable.

LIBRARY

The Library will be closed to all students, except for those in Year 12, on Friday 3rd July for the annual stock take. All items have to be checked and any books or tapes should be returned to the Library before next Friday. Normal opening hours will resume before the end of term.

CREDITS

The final day for the award of credits this term will be next Friday, 3rd July. There will be award assemblies during the last week of term for Years 8, 9 and 10.

OFSTED INSPECTION

CNS is due to be inspected for the second time by OFSTED inspectors during the week beginning 19th October. We are aiming to improve on the ‘good school’ verdict we gained in 1993.

There will be a meeting for parents with the Registered Inspector at 7.30 pm on Monday 7th September. This is very early in the new term, so please put this date in your diary.

SUMMER FETE

The Summer Fete takes place tomorrow, Saturday 27th June, from 2.00 pm onwards. We hope for a fine day but the Fete will take place whatever the weather.

Any help with the setting up of the Fete on Saturday morning will be welcomed, as will last minute donations of books, toys, plants and cakes. The most important thing, though, is to come and enjoy the Fete. There are attractions for everybody, including 5-a-side football, the Wind Band and the Strolling Players. The Fete is a real family occasion and we look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow afternoon!

SUMMER CONCERT

The Summer Concert takes place next Friday, 3rd July, at 7.30 pm in the School Hall. There is an attractive programme of classical music and jazz, featuring orchestras, choirs and small groups. The School Choir will be singing songs from Sir Paul McCartney’s ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ and the Orchestra will be playing items by Telemann, Haydn and Beethoven, giving the opportunity for solo spots to CNS musicians who will be leaving the school this summer.

Admission is by programme, priced at £2.50, available in advance from the Music Department or the school office or at the door on the night.

AUTUMN TERM

Please note that the Autumn Term begins for students on Thursday 3rd September. The LEA altered its holiday dates earlier this year, so there may be some confusion.

Year 12 students will start on the following Monday, 7th September, to allow for interviews and entry confirmation following the national publication of GCSE results on Thursday 28th August, a week later than in previous years.
