SPORTS DAY

Weather permitting, next Wednesday, 8th July, will be a Sports Day for all students in Years 8, 9 and 10, with a varied programme of activities for all students. Detailed arrangements will be made known to students very shortly. A separate programme will be designed for Year 12 students, geared towards application for Higher Education.

If the weather is bad on Wednesday, the normal timetable will operate and the Sports Day will take place the following day, Thursday.

YEAR 12

The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 12 will take place next Thursday, 9th July, from 5.30 pm onwards. This will be an important opportunity to review progress half way through advanced courses.

YEAR 10

All Year 10 students begin their fortnight’s work experience next Monday, 6th July. Over 220 students will be in placements across the city in extremely varied workplaces. Students have received information to prepare for the fortnight and will be keeping a diary during their time out of school. Each student will be visited by a member of staff during their placement.

If a student has any difficulty she or he should telephone the school immediately. On past experience, though, difficulties are very rare and we are confident that the placement will be interesting and enjoyable. Employers enjoy having students from CNS: the feedback from previous years has been overwhelmingly positive.

MAGAZINE

Any last minute articles or drawings for inclusion in the magazine should be given to Mrs O’Brien by Wednesday of this week.

CONCERT TONIGHT!

The Summer Concert takes place tonight, Friday, 3rd July, at 7.30 pm in the School Hall. There is an attractive programme of classical music and jazz, featuring orchestras, choirs and small groups. The School Choir will be singing songs from Sir Paul McCartney’s ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ and the Orchestra will be playing items by Telemann, Haydn and Beethoven, giving the opportunity for solo spots to CNS musicians who will be leaving the school this summer. Admission is by programme, priced at £2.50, available at the door this evening

SUMMER FETE

In spite of anxieties about the weather in the morning, the sun shone for the duration of the Fete last Saturday. Profits are estimated at about £1400, so thanks to everybody who came and supported the event. Thanks, too, to all the helpers- and especially to the School Association Committee which worked so hard to organise the Fete.

NATIONAL YOUTH THEATRE

Congratulations to Kevin Coe of Year 12 who has been accepted for training by the National Youth Theatre. Kevin was awarded one of only 350 places from an application list of 4,500.

Kevin will spend three weeks in London this summer undertaking the initial training course. He is the second current CNS student to be selected to work with the NYT, the other being Gemma Catlin, also of Year 12, who has ben involved for the last two years.

DATES

Activities Week begins on Monday 13th July, and term ends on Friday 24th July. The Autumn Term begins on Thursday 3rd September and the meeting for parents with the OFSTED inspectors is on Monday 7th September.
