EATON ECHO

No. 14.02

Friday 11th September 1998

TARGET SETTING

A meeting for parents to discuss new arrangements for reporting, based on targets for each individual student in each subject, will take place in the school hall next Monday, 14th September, at 7.30 pm.

We hope that parents will attend to advise on us on the best way of helping their children to realise their potential. The original proposal, which was outlined at the Governors’meeting with Parents in May, may need to be modified as a result of a number of factors, so parents’ opinions will be particularly welcome.

OFSTED MEETING

Thanks to those parents who attended the meeting with the OFSTED inspectors last Monday. The views which were expressed will inform the inspection agenda during the week of 19th October.

Many parents have returned the OFSTED questionnaire: the deadline for return is next Wednesday, 16th September. Please do your best to complete the questionnaire if you haven’t already done so: parents’ views of the school are regarded as very important.

LIBRARY

All students and staff who are new to CNS are welcome to use the facilities of the Library. Once a membership form has been completed, you will be able to borrow books, audiotapes and video tapes.

The Library aims to cater for the interests of everybody in the school and provides a huge range of materials, both related to the curriculum and to leisure interests. The library staff and the school librarians are happy to give assistance and advice to help you find what you need. Opening hours are posted on the door.

KOBLENZ VISITORS

Students and staff from our partner school in Germany, the Gymnasium Asterstein, near Koblenz, will be arriving next Wednesday to spend ten days in Norwich. They will be staying with host families from CNS and will spend some time in the school. We welcome our visitors and hope that they have a very happy stay.

MUSIC

Mr Banfield is desperately seeking bass and drum players to join the school’s award winning Jazz Octet. Gigs have already been lined up, including a special performance with one of the country’s leading saxophone players, Andy Sheppard. See Mr Banfield immediately in the Music area if you think you fit the bill.

SPORT

Congratulations to Charity Barnes of 8Bs who represented the English Schools’ U13 Badminton team in an international tournament in Europe last weekend. Charity was runner-up in both the singles and doubles events.

OPPORTUNITY FOR MOTHERS

A course on ‘tactical parenting’ is being run for women with teenage sons by WHISS, beginning next Tuesday, 15th September, from 7.00 pm until 9.00 pm. If you are interested, please ring Michelle Virgo on Norwich 623835.

LOCKERS

Please make sure that payment for lockers is made to the Finance Office by 15th September: the receipt you get will be proof of payment, so keep it in a safe place. If you rented a locker last year, but do not require one now, please return the key to Mr Burns: demand is high this year. If you have any queries about lockers, please see Mr Burns in Room 9 during any morning break or the first fifteen minutes of lunch hours.
