summer 98

Friday 13th November 1998 - No. 14.10

INTAKE MEETING
On Thursday of next week, 19th November, at 7.30 pm, we hold the first of our two meetings for students in their last year at middle school and their parents. On the basis of attendance at previous years' meetings, we expect a very large turnout and look forward to involving many of our students, particularly those who are in Year 8, in presenting the school to our visitors. We feel that we can present the school with real confidence, given the excellent inspection report we shall receive and the developments which have occurred over the past year, such as the installation of the computer network.

REMEMBRANCE ASSEMBLIES
Over the past week, all year groups have had special assemblies in which students have been reminded of the sacrifices made by previous generations in two world wars. The point of the assemblies is to make students aware of the nature of war and the waste of human lives which inevitably occurs. There used to be a notice in the Hall which said: 'War begins in people's minds: it is in people's minds that the defences of peace must be constructed'. That message is as powerful today as it has ever been.

BEHAVIOUR
The use of yo-yos is restricted to outside areas of the school: there is a risk of somebody being hurt within the buildings. And please do not come to school on skates or with a skateboard: neither are allowed in CNS and it must be dangerous to use them on crowded roads before and after school.
QUIZ EVENING
Tickets are available from the Office for the Quiz Evening, organised by the School Association, on Saturday 5th December: details are given on the back of this Echo. Quiz evenings are extremely popular so don't delay in forming a table and buying your tickets.

'FIERCE'
Next Tuesday, 17th November, the all-girl band 'Fierce' will be performing live in the Sports Hall. In previous years, we have had gigs from Peter Andre and Another Level, both of whom have gone on to fame and fortune. Admission will cost 50p and all takings will be put to the school's Charity Week collection in February. JAZZ Tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 14th November, the jazz saxophonist and composer, Andy Sheppard, will be holding a workshop for CNS musicians. Tickets for Andy Sheppard's concert with the CNS Jazz Octet on Saturday 21st November are available from Norwich Arts Centre.

ANTI -RACISM GROUP
The Anti-Racism Group will meet next Tuesday, 17th November, at 1.00 pm in Room 43.

HEATWAVE?
With winter approaching, Mrs Stannard wonders whether there would be a demand for some hot food and drink from the tuckshop. A limited menu might be available with tea and coffee and possibly pot noodles. If this would interest you, let the tuckshop team know next time you buy something in the Barn.
