EATON ECHO

summer 98

Friday 27th November 1998 - No. 14.12

EXAMINATIONS
Mock examinations for Years 11 and 13 begin this Monday, 30th November, and last for two weeks. Students taking the exams may study at home when their timetable allows. The Sixth Form Common Room and the Gym will be used for the exams, but other rooms will be used on certain occasions: students from year groups which are not involved in the exams should watch out for room changes and Year 12 students will not have access to the Common Room during breaks and lunchtimes.

DATES
Last Friday, all students in Years 8-11 were given letters to take home to parents, announcing dates of parent-teacher consultation meetings and the issuing of reports. Please note that Monday is a normal school day: the Academic Review Day, which was originally proposed, has been cancelled. The Year 10 parent-teacher consultation meeting will take place on Wednesday 9th December from 5.30 pm onwards.

INTAKE MEETINGS
Thanks to all students and parents who helped at the two Year 8 intake meetings. More visitors than ever seem to be interested in CNS and many said that they were impressed by the warmth of their welcome and by the friendliness of everyone who was representing the school.

ANTI-RACISM
The Anti-Racism Group will meet at 1.00 pm next Tuesday, 1st December, to watch the second episode of the video 'Black and White': all are welcome. And thanks to the Beth Shalom Institute for providing CNS with the Holocaust Exhibition in the Hall: many students have learned about the suffering of the Jewish people from 1939-45.
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
The Association wishes to remind everyone of the Quiz Night on Saturday week, 5th December: a few tickets are still available from the school office. MUSIC The appearance of the CNS Jazz Octet with Andy Sheppard at the Norwich Playhouse last Saturday evening was a tremendous success. Playing to a packed audience, the Octet (Jon Piper, Lucy Smith, Rob Webb, Stefan Wasilyw, Henry Tremain, Peter Chamberlin, Claude Jovinho and guest drummer David Smith) performed with real flair. Andy Sheppard joined the Octet in two numbers he had written for the group and the rapport between the 'star' and our students was obvious. Thanks to Pam Reekie and the Norwich Arts Centre for making the event possible. The Christmas Concert will take place in the School Hall at 7.30 pm on Thursday 17th December. Tickets will be on sale next week.

DRAMA
Congratulations to Vicky Groves, Beth Greengrass and Camilla Ridd, all of Year 8, who have passed their Grade 2 Drama exam with honours. The exam took place at the Theatre Arts Studio. And congratulations, too, to Samantha Moore of Year 9 who will be taking part in 'Aladdin' at the Theatre Royal over the Christmas period. A few tickets are left for the production of 'The Phantom Tollbooth' on 9th and 10th December, but hurry if you don't want to be disappointed.

YEAR 8
Next week, all Year 8 students will be issued with a free copy of a newsletter which has been edited by two students from 8Bs. Hope you like 'The Simpsons'!
