YEAR 10
The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 10 takers place this Wednesday, 9th December, from 5.30 pm onwards. This is an important opportunity for parents to learn of the progress which has been made in the first term of GCSE courses and we look forward to a very good attendance.

OFSTED REPORT
The report of the OFSTED inspection should be received at school before the end of this week and copies of the summary for parents will be given to students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 to take home to parents. The date of issue to Year 11 and 13 students will be 14th December. The overall verdict is that CNS is 'a good school where students make good progress and have many opportunities to thrive'. The school is judged to have many more strengths than weaknesses and to have developed well since the last OFSTED inspection in 1993. Copies of the full report, which is over 40 pages long, will be available from the school from 14th December. Copies can be e-mailed free of charge, obtained on floppy disc for £1 or received as a printed copy for £2, this charge being made for photocopying and paper costs. The summary will have an accompanying letter which will give further details on how to obtain the full report.

COMPUTER SALE
Now that CNS has a fully installed PC Network, the school is selling off its redundant Acorn computers (mainly Archimedes but there are some BBCs). If you're interested, contact Mr Brodie in the Technical Services workshop at the school (or by phone if you are a parent). Prices will vary according to the age, condition and capacity of the computers.
QUIZ NIGHT
The Association's Quiz Night is tomorrow, Saturday 5th December, at 7.30 for 8.00 pm in the School Hall. The ticket price includes fish and chips, but drinks need to be brought in by those attending.

'PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH'
Performances of the lower school production of 'The Phantom Tollbooth' take place on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, 10th and 11th December, at 7.30 pm in the Drama area. Both performances are virtually sold out.

NETWORK OPENING
On Friday next week at 11.15 am, Charles Clarke MP, who is the government minister responsible for IT in schools, will officially 'open' the school's computer network. Mr Clarke will see lessons in which use of computers forms part of the teaching and learning process.

VIOLENCE
There have been several separate incidents in recent weeks in which younger students have acted in a violent way towards other students in their year group. Disciplinary action has been taken in each case, with formal fixed-term exclusions resulting. Students and parents must realise that CNS rejects violence absolutely and that permanent exclusion will be a distinct probability if any future incident occurs. Even if there is provocation, any student who has a grievance against anyone else in the school should seek the assistance of a teacher to resolve the problem. Aggressive, threatening and violent behaviour towards anyone else is a criminal offence: the fact that incidents may take place in a school offers no immunity from possible prosecution by the police.
