EATON ECHO

summer 98

Friday 12th March 1999 - No. 14.24

STAFF TRAINING

Next Friday, 19th March, is a staff training day and is a holiday for all students. School resumes at 8.45 am on Monday 22nd March.

Next week’s Echo will be published on Thursday of next week, 18th March.

HOME-SCHOOL AGREEMENTS

From September 1999 all state schools are required by law to have a ‘home-school agreement’. The agreement will set out the school’s aims and values, the school’s responsibilities towards its students, the responsibilities of parents and what the school expects of its students. When the agreement is finalised, the school must seek the signatures of all parents of students at the school to indicate that they understand and accept the contents of the agreement.

Most of the areas covered by the agreement already exist in the school’s policies and procedures, and these will provide the starting point for the drafting of the document. Nevertheless, the Governors would like to give parents the opportunity to contribute directly towards the making of the document and to join a steering group of governors, staff and students who will aim to produce a draft document for consideration at the annual meeting of governors with parents on Thursday 27th May. If any parent is interested in helping with this task, please ring the office (454015) and let us know.

CHARITIES WEEK

We are already approaching our target of £4,000: £3,829 has been banked. Please hand in the sponsor money you have already collected, even if there is still a bit more to come. And on the back of this Echo are the answers to the 10Bz quiz.

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTIONS

The terms of office of two parent governors come to an end on 10th May 1999 and, as from 1st September 1999, there will be a vacancy for an additional parent governor under new instruments of government for schools.

A letter will be issued to parents via students next Thursday, 18th March, inviting nominations for the vacancies. The closing date for receipt of nominations will be Friday 26th March.

CONCERT

The Spring Concert takes place this evening Friday, 12th March, at 7.30 pm. Admission is by programme, price £3, available at the door.

AMNESTY

Thanks to everyone who put their signatures and thumbprints on the giant postcards, protesting against the use of child labour throughout the world, which have been sent to the Prime Minister. The response was such that two sessions were needed to allow everyone to contribute.

FAIRWAY FAYRE

Fairway Schools PTA has asked us to publicise its Easter Fayre on Saturday week, 20th March, at Fairway First and Middle Schools from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm. There are craft and cake stalls, book sales, games and tombolas- everyone is welcome!

FOUND - AND WANTED

A watch was found on Thursday morning on the path through the golf club. Yours? It’s in the school office.

Any ‘Books for Schools’ tokens can be handed in to the school office at any time.
