YEAR 9

The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 9 takes place next Thursday, 22nd April, from 5.30 pm onwards.

Yesterday evening, students and parents attended a presentation of next year’s courses and received a booklet giving subject information and outlining the choices which need to be made. Booklets will be issued to those who were unable to attend the meeting.

Choices must be made by Monday 26th April and the sheet returned to Form Tutors by that date.

YEAR 11

The first voluntary revision session took place yesterday after school: Year 11 students and parents are reminded that the sessions will continue on Mondays and Thursdays after school in Rooms 85 and 86 until Thursday 13th May.

The main purpose of the sessions is to give students a quiet working environment where they can concentrate on their work: students are expected to bring what they need for the session. The staff who are supervising will assist as far as they can, but will pass on to subject teachers the next day any difficulties which students have with understanding their work.

We hope that many students will make use of this facility and wish to remind all Year 11 students that study leave begins after school on Friday 14th May.

50/50 AUCTION

Details of the auction on Saturday 24th April, organised by the School Association, are published on the back of this copy of the Echo. This is your chance to make money for yourself and for the school.

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION

Four nominations have been received for the three parent-governor vacancies, so an election will need to take place. Ballot papers, giving details of the candidates, will be issued next Tuesday, 20th April, and must be returned to the school office by 3.45 pm on Tuesday 27th April, which is formally the date of the election. Detailed instructions on the procedure will be contained in the letter.

MUSIC

Timetables for this term’s instrumental lessons are available either on the intranet (instructions for accessing this information are displayed throughout the school) or on notice boards in the Music area.

Congratulations to students who recently took Associated Board exams. A 100% pass rate was achieved, including two distinctions at grade 8 (Sarah Masson and Becky Harris) and a merit and a pass at grade 8 (Vicky Cooper). Congratulations, too, to the CNS Jazz Nonet, which gained a distinction in the newly introduced AB Jazz Ensemble exam.

WORLD BOOK DAY

Friday 23rd April is World Book Day and all students will receive a £1 book voucher which is valid in bookshops until 3rd May. A handsome prize will be given to the CNS student who designs the best bookmark: please hand in your entries to one of the library staff before Friday 7th May.

CLEAN SHEET

Congratulations to former student Robert Green who denied Ipswich Town any goals on his debut for the Norwich City first team last Sunday.
