Friday 30th April 1999 - No. 14.29

PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Next Monday, 3rd May, is a public holiday and the school will be closed. School resumes at 8.45 am on Tuesday 4th May.

YEAR 9
National Key Stage 3 tests take place throughout next week for Year 9 students, beginning with English on Tuesday morning, 4th May. A letter was issued to students and parents outlining the timetable and giving further information and a special assembly was held yesterday.

Students must be in school by 8.45 am for morning exams and by 1.40 pm for afternoon exams: if a student is going to be absent through illness or will be late for any reason, please ring the school (454015).

YEAR 8
The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 8 will take place next Thursday, 7th May, from 5.30 pm onwards. Students should be making appointments for their parents to meet their teachers.

YEAR 11
All Year 11 students have been issued with a revision guide and a parents' guide to GCSEs. Mrs Collard has copies of 'Letts Revision Skills: a survival guide for your GCSE exams', which costs £1 and is strongly recommended as it contains some useful tips.

There will be revision opportunities on Monday 10th May and Thursdays 6th and 13th May in Rooms 85 and 86 after school. Lessons for Year 11 end in a fortnight's time, on Friday 14th May. It is important that students make the most of these final lessons to fine-tune their exam preparation.
PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION
Mr Andrew Earl, Mrs Diane Whalen and Mr Gareth Phillips have been elected as parent governors, Mr Earl and Mrs Whalen from 12th May and Mr Phillips from 1st September. 197 ballot papers were returned. According to regulations, the results, with the number of votes received for each candidate, are posted in the school hall. If no objection to the conduct of the election is lodged by 11th May, the three candidates will be confirmed as governors.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
The School Association is running a stall tomorrow morning, Saturday 1st May, at Hay Hill which is adjacent to Top Shop in the centre of Norwich. Last minute donations of cakes will be very welcome on the morning.

FREE FLIGHT
The Post Office is offering a Year 12 student the chance of a lifetime- to fly from Kenya to Cape Town in a replica Vickers Vimy biplane, all expenses paid, later this term. This is a national competition and details are posted on the English notice board.

GOVERNORS & PARENTS MEETING The annual meeting of governors with parents will take place on Thursday 27th May at 7.30 pm. Parents will receive the governors' annual report in the week beginning 10th May: at the meeting, the report and the progress made by the school in relation to the post-inspection action plan will be discussed. Additional items include an opportunity to consider school uniform requirements and to consider the draft of the home-school agreement for CNS, which will be in place from September.
