EATON ECHO

summer 98

Friday 18th June 1999 - No. 14.35

TRAINING DAY
Thursday 1st July is a training day for staff and a holiday for all students: the date has been chosen to allow parents to take their children to the Norfolk Show if they so wish. We expect full attendance on Friday 2nd July and will actively follow up any absences.

YEAR 10
Year 10 students have a GCSE Science exam next Monday afternoon, 21st June. The exam will be held in conditions which the exam boards require for all public exams. The marks available for this exam amount to 25% of the final total, so it is important that students recognise its significance. Students have been made aware of what will be tested by their teachers.

HOME SCHOOL AGREEMENT
On Monday, all students will be issued with a copy of the draft home-school agreement which must be in place in September. This is a second draft which incorporates some of the points raised by parents and staff following the first draft which was available at the annual meeting of governors with parents.

If parents have any additions, deletions, amendments or comments they wish to be taken into account, would they please return the attached sheet to the school office by next Friday 25th June. The return sheet also seeks the views of parents on possible uniform changes which might be introduced from September 2000. Students and staff have expressed their points of view, but the governors would wish to hear from parents before considering any alteration to present requirements.
SUMMER FETE
The Fete is just a week away on Saturday 26th June: details are to be found on the back of this copy of the Echo. Please continue to do your best to sell raffle tickets: there are good prizes on offer.

HELP THE AGED
From 10.00 am until l.00 pm on Friday 2nd July, some Year 9 students are undertaking a sponsored workout to raise funds for Help the Aged. Rumour has it that at least a couple of the more senior (or aged) members of staff will also be taking part!

LIBRARY
Congratulations to Jess Hiscocks (9Fh) winner of the Book Mark Competition arranged through the Library and to Helen Varley (9Wm), the runner-up. The Library has details of another competition, this time set by the magazine 'White Dwarf'.

NEW INTAKE MEETING
Students who will be joining CNS in Year 8 (and their parents) will be visiting the school at 7.30 pm next Thursday, 24th June. Students will be divided into small groups and will be with a teacher who will give information about the school and who will answer any questions. Parents will meet the Head in the Hall and there will be a presentation for them.

Afterwards everybody will meet up in the Sports Hall where there will be displays of uniform and PE kit and a chance to talk to a number of teachers. Thanks in advance to those of our present Year 8 students who will be acting as guides on the evening.
