EATON ECHO

summer 98

Friday 25th June 1999 - No. 14.36

TRAINING DAY
Next Thursday, 1st July, is a staff training day and the school will be closed to students. School resumes on Friday 2nd July at 8.45 am. There will be a special assembly for representatives of all year groups at which the Charities Week cheque will be presented to Global Care to fund the Literacy Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

NEW INTAKES
Yesterday evening CNS welcomed students who will be joining Year 8 (and their parents) to a meeting at the school. Year 8 in September will contain 232 students from 22 middle schools and we look forward to their joining CNS. And on Monday until Wednesday, there will be an induction course for students proposing to join Year 12 in September.

The Sixth Form at CNS attracts students from a range of schools other than CNS and our partnered school, Hethersett High, and we hope that all the students will find these introductory days to be positive and useful.

MILLENNIUM
We are looking for suggestions from students and parents as to how the school might mark the millennium. Clearly, there will be national and local celebrations at the time of the New Year and we don't want to replicate what is available elsewhere. Ideally, we would like to find something to which all who are at the school in 2000 can contribute, which is reasonable to manage and which does not disrupt the proper processes of teaching and learning in a major way. Please hand in any ideas to the school office at any time before the end of term: there will be a prize for the best suggestion from a student.
SUMMER FETE
The Fete takes place tomorrow, Saturday 26th June, at 2.00 pm: the attractions were advertised in last week's Echo and we are sure that many students will want to take the opportunity to drive a car. The weather forecast is good and we look forward to a very happy occasion. Please make sure that you come along to join in the fun.

CONCERT
Next Wednesday, 30th June, at 7.30 pm there will be a concert given by students in Years 8 and 9 in the Drama Area. The concert has a varied programme and features classical, jazz and popular items. Tickets, price £2, are on sale at the door on the night.

LETTERS
This week parents should have received a copy of the draft home-school agreement and uniform questionnaire and a pack of information about financial advice in saving for the costs of higher education. Please make sure that you have received these: they were issued to all students by Form Tutors.

MIDBANK QUIZ
HSBC are running a quiz on eclipses which is open to all students of schools with a Midbank facility: a total eclipse of the sun will take place in Cornwall on 11th August. There are very good prizes: see Mr Southon in Room 25 if you are interested.

LIBRARY
The Library will be closed for the annual stock check from Monday 5th July. Please make sure that all borrowed items are returned by next Friday, 2nd July.
