Friday 2nd July 1999 - No. 14.37

YEAR 10
Year 10 students begin their fortnight's work experience next Monday, 5th July. In period 6 this afternoon they will receive their final briefing and the documentation they need to take to their placement. Each student will be visited by a CNS teacher during the fortnight. Monday 19th July is the Academic Review Day for Year 10 at which all students' progress throughout the year will be assessed.

YEAR 12
The parent-teacher consultation meeting for Year 12 will take place next Thursday, 8th July, from 5.30 pm onwards. This will provide an important opportunity to review progress at the half way point in A level and GNVQ Advanced courses.

SPORTS DAY
All students in Years 8 and 9 will be involved in Sports Day next Wednesday, 7th July. If the weather is fine, all lessons will be cancelled, but students should bring books just in case. Friday 9th July will be the reserve date if Sports Day is cancelled on Wednesday.

NEXT YEAR'S CHARITY
We hope to support the 'Chernobyl Children's Lifeline' in next year's Charities Week. The charity was established to help children who are suffering the after-effects of the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in the Ukraine. Charities Week will aim to raise money to bring a group of children to Norwich next summer. BBC2 is screening a programme about the charity, entitled 'Part of our Family', next Thursday, 8th July, at 7.30 pm. More information next term from Mr Banfield who will be co-ordinating the school's charity efforts next year.
SUMMER FETE
The Summer Fete held last Saturday was probably the best ever with wonderful weather and plenty of visitors who enjoyed the attractions. Over £2000 was raised on the day: thanks to the Association Committee which organised the Fete, all the helpers and all who came on the afternoon.

SATS RESULTS
Results of the Key Stage 3 tests taken by students in Year 9 are beginning to come into school, but not all results have yet been received. Students and parents will receive a report with levels of attainment in English, Maths and Science and teacher assessments in all national curriculum subjects. The date of issue of this report of results will depend upon the availability of all the required information and may be held over until September.

EATON ROAD
Students are asked not to meet in groups along Eaton Road before and after school. We have had some complaints from residents and from members of the public. Eaton Road is busy and dangerous and we would ask all our students not to create an unnecessary nuisance.

GLOBAL CARE
A cheque for over £4,700, the proceeds of this year's Charities Week, was presented to Mrs Judith Bull, representing Global Care, at a special assembly this morning. Mrs Bull then talked to some RE classes about the charity and its work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the CNS money will support a literacy programme for children. One pound per person per year is all it costs to teach each child to read and write - so 4,700 children will benefit from our efforts!
