Friday 9th July 1999 - No. 14.38

ACTIVITIES WEEK
Normal timetable arrangements do not operate next week: all students in Years 8 and 9 are involved in Activities Week. All students should have details of the arrangements for their activity throughout the week, including those for registration both in the morning and afternoon. If students have any doubts about the arrangements which apply to them, they must resolve these by end of school today, Friday.

END OF TERM
Term ends at 2.20 pm on Wednesday week, 21st July. Lessons for Years 8, 9 and 12 will be as timetabled on Week 1 on Monday and Tuesday. Year 10 students are involved in an Academic Review Day on Monday 19th July and will have a work experience debrief during the first two lessons on the Tuesday. Award assemblies for Years 8, 9 and 10 will take place during the final three days. On the final day of term, Wednesday 21st July, there will be normal lessons in periods 1-4. After lunch, students will have an extended registration period with their form tutors until 2.05 pm before a final assembly in the Sports Hall which will end at 2.20 pm.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
Thirteen Year 10 students successfully completed the expedition element of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award last weekend. Thanks to Dr Knott, Miss McBain, Mr Martin and Mr Rowe for accompanying the students. The weather was good- until a storm blew up on the Sunday!.
HOME-SCHOOL AGREEMENT
Thanks to the many parents who returned the reply slip on the home-school agreement and the issue of possible uniform change. The responses on uniform will go to the governors who will decide whether any changes are appropriate for September 2000. Most parents support the draft home-school agreement as its stands: however, there have been helpful comments on the detail of the wording which will be incorporated into the agreement. On the first day of term, students will be issued with two copies, one for themselves, one for their parents, together with a return slip for both to sign denoting acceptance of the agreement.

AMNESTY
The school's Amnesty International group appealed against a deportation order issued in Germany which would have resulted in the return of Fathelrahman Abdullah to Sudan where he would have been at risk of imprisonment and torture. The appeal, involving Amnesty International groups across the world, has been successful and the deportation order has been postponed.

MILLENNIUM PROJECT
CNS Drama students will be performing in the Millennium Dome next March. Sophie Lord of Year 9 went with Mrs Wickham to the Eastern Region launch in Cambridge last Friday- and met Ben Shephard! ECHO The final Echo of the term will be published on Monday 19th July.
