EATON ECHO

summer 98

Monday 19th July 1999 - No. 14.39

LAST DAY
The Summer Term ends this Wednesday, 21st July, at 2.20 pm. Lessons will be as normal from periods 1-4. After lunch there will be an extended form period until 2.05 pm, with a final assembly for all year groups in the Sports Hall. The Autumn Term begins for all students in Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 at 8.45 am on Thursday 2nd September: Wednesday 1st September is a staff training day. Year 12 start school on Monday 6th September.

LEAVING
We wish all students and staff who are leaving CNS every success and happiness in the future. Staff who are leaving are Mrs Cousins, Mr Hynes Miss Laight, Mrs Litten, Miss McBain, Miss Musson, Mr Rowe, Mrs Thomas, Miss Williamson and Mr Woolston. We thank them for their contribution to CNS during their time here.

SATS RESULTS
Year 9 students will be issued with a full statement of their SATS results and teacher assessments at the beginning of the Autumn Term: we have found several marking errors by the examiners which have had to be rectified, hence the delay.

ACTIVITIES WEEK
The weather stayed fine throughout the week and staff and students enjoyed a range of indoor and outdoor activities. Most students contributed greatly to the success of the week. Thanks to the teachers who planned and organised the activities, no easy task, particularly with ambitious projects. We believe that there is real educational benefit in the week, even though our organisation is stretched to the limit.
EATON ECHO
This is the very last Eaton Echo! The newsletter has appeared on a weekly basis for the past fourteen years and has never missed a publication deadline. From September we shall have 'The Echo', which will be the 'City of Norwich School Weekly Newsletter'. This follows the return of the school's original name which it held from 1910 until 1970 and which it will take into the millennium.

SCHOOL MEALS
The price of a full school meal (and a free lunch entitlement) will rise by five pence at the beginning of the Autumn Term. The cost of individual items will also increase by a small amount.

LIBRARY COMPETITION Congratulations to Luke Jules of 10Wk, winner of the 'White Dwarf' competition arranged by the Library. The prize was a free offer with a magazine subscription, worth £75.

SPONSORED WALK OR BIKE RIDE The EDP is sponsoring a cycle ride or walk around Norfolk churches on Sunday 11th September to raise money to help with the costs of maintenance and repair of churches and chapels. The school office has entry forms and further details if you would like to take part.

HOLIDAY
Thanks to everybody for their hard work this year. The OFSTED judgement last October was that CNS is a good school where students make good progress and have many opportunities to thrive! Enjoy the summer holiday!
