CITY OF NORWICH SCHOOL
As from Wednesday of this week, 1st September, the school ceased to be Eaton (City of Norwich) School and resumed its foundation title of City of Norwich School.

This decision was taken by the governors who, under new legislation, have the power to determine the name of the school. The name was modified in 1970 because it was thought that the name of the then grammar school would give the school an unfair advantage when comprehensive schools were introduced in Norwich.

Thirty years on, and with the millennium approaching, governors believe that CNS has proved itself as a highly effective comprehensive school and that it is now appropriate to resume its true identity. While many students from the Eaton area attend CNS, the school has always admitted a large number of students from across the city. We suspect that it will take some time for everybody to recognise the changed name, but please do your best to make it known. The office will be pleased that they will not have to redirect mail to Eton College in the future!

WELCOME
We welcome all newcomers to City of Norwich School and hope that their time here will be happy and successful. Joining the staff this term are:

Mr Cockle (English and RE). Miss Dickerson (D&T), Miss Durrant (English), Mr Hadden (Art), Mrs Kimber (Maths), Mr Kreft (Languages), Miss Letondeur (Languages), Mrs Maddocks (Art), Mrs Marjoram (English), Mrs Thrower (GNVQ Business), Mr Uddin (History) and Miss Vivers (RE). We also welcome back Mr Copperwheat (Science) who is re-joining the staff.
EXAMINATIONS
This year's GCSE results were outstanding, with over 62% of students gaining five subjects at grade C or above. This represents a 10% improvement on last year's results: the performance of boys and girls was equal.

A level results were good, with the majority of students able to take up places at university: the status of County Scholar will be awarded to 24 students who gained AA or ABB or better in their results.

Year 10 students will be issued with a full statement of their Year 9 SATS results and teacher assessments next Friday, 10th September.

HOME-SCHOOL AGREEMENT
The home-school agreement, which was issued to parents in draft form last term, comes into place this September. Yesterday, Form Tutors discussed the agreement with students in Years 8-11, all of whom have a draft copy of the agreement. Copies of the final agreement are with the printers and will be issued as soon as possible. When this occurs, students and parents will be asked to sign to say that they accept the terms of the agreement.

PHOTOGRAPHS
All students will be photographed individually next Monday morning, 6th September. There will also be team photographs - please bring kit - and family photographs where requested.

EATON ROAD
There is restricted parking on Eaton Road and parents who collect children from school are asked to park well away from the school entrance. Parents of students who are new to the school should note that, in collecting their children, they should not attempt to park in the school grounds.
