CALENDAR
The calendar of events for the year has now been published and issued to students to take home to parents. There is one omission: please note that Friday 28th January 2000 should be added as a staff development day and a holiday for all students. The half-term holiday for students starts in just under a fortnight's time after school on Thursday 21st October.

ACTIVITIES WEEK
A booklet giving details of next July's Activities Week has been issued today to students in Years 8 and 9. While the summer may seem a long way away, residential activities have to be booked well in advance. Please make sure that, returns are in by Wednesday 20th October.

FUN RUN
For once, CNS is aiming to raise money to help itself, with a Fun Run on the school field on the afternoon of Wednesday 20th October. We are aiming to replace the school minibus which is suffering from old age!

It has been decided that the whole day will be a 'Wear Your Own Clothes' day, but students will have to pay £1 for the privilege. There will be prizes for the most original kit worn on the run itself - the emphasis is on fun! More details will be given in next week's Echo, although students should already be seeking sponsorship. We look forward to seeing Mr Hadden set the pace: he is taking part in the Great North Run this weekend, so watch out for him on television on Sunday.

CANTEEN PRICES
Examples of prices of food served in the school canteen are on the back of this copy of the Echo.
CEILIDH
Tickets for the Ceilidh on Saturday 16th October are selling quickly, so please make sure you are not disappointed. Prices are £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for children: tickets are available from, the school office or from Theresa Easter on 01603 501046 (apologies for printing the wrong number in last week's Echo).

CANCER RELIEF
Thanks to everyone who supported the coffee morning last Friday in aid of the Macmillan, Cancer Relief Fund.: the proceeds of sales and donations amounted to £116.

MUSIC
Bills for this term's instrumental lessons are now with students. Early settlement, would be appreciated. The money should be paid to Mrs Kemp in the Finance Office before morning registration or in morning breaks.

GOLF
Congratulations to the CNS team of Sam Wig (Y 12), Ross Baker (Y 11) and David Wilson (Y9), runners-up in the regional round of the Golf Foundation Team Championship for schools. Ross played particularly well, carding the fifth best score on the day.

TIMES TOKENS
Please collect the free software tokens for schools which are printed in 'The Times' newspaper and place them in the collection box on the stage in the Hall. The more we collect, the greater the reward!

QUEST AUTHOR
Students from Year 8 enjoyed a lively discussion with Malcolm Rose, author of many popular teenage crime novels.
