INTAKE MEETINGS
Yesterday evening, Year 11 students from CNS and their parents attended a meeting at which Sixth Form courses were presented. A similar meeting for students and their parents from schools other than CNS will take place next Wednesday, 10th November, at 7.30 pm in the School Hall. The Year 8 meetings for middle school students and their parents take place on Thursday 18th November and Tuesday 23rd November, each at 7.30 pm. We look forward to welcoming visitors to the school and hope that they find the evenings to be both interesting and encouraging.

FUN RUN
Despite a biting wind on the afternoon of 20th October, students ran or jogged enthusiastically round their respective tracks. Maybe because of the biting wind, many chose not to teak the permitted break but to continue for the full hour! Possible future Olympic stars included Levi Bramwell-Barker and Gordon Hourine, both of whom ran quickly for the duration of the run. Contenders for the prizes for best costumes included Barry Grimes, Jess Cordingley and Katie Favell. All sponsorship money should be handed in by next Monday at the latest: prizes will be given out in assemblies within the next two weeks.

SCHOOL COUNCIL
The first meeting of the School Council will take place next Wednesday, 10th November, in period 5 in Room 19. Mr Dickson will act as facilitator for the Council throughout the year and looks forward to receiving agenda items from students and from staff.
PARENT-GOVERNOR ELECTION
Following the resignation of Dr Diane DeBell, there is a vacancy for a parent representative on the school's governing body. A letter for all parents will be issued next Friday, 12th November, giving details of the procedure and inviting nominations.

'CABARET'
Mrs Wickham asks cast members of this year's musical production, 'Cabaret', who have not yet received a rehearsal schedule and contract, to see her in the Drama Studio next Tuesday, 9th November, at morning break. All cast and crew members should check the notice-board outside the studio on a daily basis.

NORMANDY VISIT
Forty-eight Year 9 students visited Normandy before half term on a study trip organised by the History Department. The theme of the trip was 'Invasions' and focussed on the invasion of England by William the Conquerer in 1066 and the D-Day invasion of occupied France by the Allies in 1944. Places visited included Bayeux, Arromanches, Caen, Trouville and Honfleur. The students on the visit behaved very well- this was the tenth time a CNS party has made this trip and the Director of the Study Centre in Normandy invited the CNS teachers to a champagne celebration of this anniversary.

SECURITY
Students are reminded that they must take care of their own property at all times: everybody has use of a locker. Bags should not be left in the dining room at lunchtimes: the dining room is always crowded and there is the risk of either loss or theft of personal belongings.
