INTAKE MEETINGS
The two intake meetings for Year 11 students considering Sixth Form opportunities have now taken place. On Wednesday evening, those who attended came from schools other than CNS and the meeting was more packed than ever before. Places in Year 12 are not unlimited and no automatic preference is given to CNS students, so our advice is to apply early to ensure that you are not disappointed. On Thursday of next week, 18th November, and on Tuesday 23rd November, both at 7.30 pm, we have meetings for Year 7 students at middle schools and their parents. Again, we expect a great deal of interest from those who attend and hope that a large number of students will help us to put on a really effective presentation.

REPORTING
The schedule of reporting for all year groups is to be found on the back of this copy of 'The Echo'. For Years 8-11, there is a reporting event each term which will be a parent-teacher consultation meeting or a full report or a statement of attainment against minimum target grades.

'RUNNING BOY'
A bronze sculpture of a running boy has been sited on the stage of the Hall this week and many students have asked what it is and why it is there. Dr Alan Howard. the President of the former students' association, the CNS Union, is hoping that the Union will be able to raise sufficient money from former students to be able to donate the sculpture as a millennium gift to the school. If this objective is achieved, the statue will be permanently placed on the front lawn in the vicinity of the cedar trees. Any former student is welcome to visit the school to view the statue in its present location.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
The first meeting this year of the School Council took place on Wednesday afternoon. Among the items discussed were the unsatisfactory state of student toilets, problems with outsiders at the end of school, bullying and the home-school agreement. Notes of the meeting will be passed back to year group councils for further discussion.

'RISING STARS'
Congratulations to Nick Baker of Year 13, winner of the 1999 Norwich Union Rising Star Sports Award. Nick, who is a senior international swimmer for England and Great Britain, receives £1000 to help offset the costs of training or equipment and was the unanimous choice of the judges. And congratulations to Joe Cowan, also of Year 13, who has been selected for the Norfolk Under 21 hockey squad.

CHRISTMAS CARDS
The Equality Group, which combines the CNS Amnesty and Anti-Racist groups, is selling Christmas cards to support the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and Amnesty International. The cards have been produced by CNS students with the help of the Art Department. Cards, price £1 for ten, will be on sale outside Room 43 at lunchtimes. Orders can be placed with Mrs Twynham (Room 22) or Mrs Moulton (Room 43).

'KUMON' MATHS
Information on commercial study support packages was issued in October. We have been asked by a parent to point out that there is a local Kumon Maths Centre which organises after-school sessions for students. Further details can be obtained by ringing 01603 423405 or by collecting a leaflet from the school office.
